Wall to Wall TV, the producers of the BBC family history programme Who Do You Think You Are, are producing a new programme about supermarkets.
They are looking for a community that would like to set up their own supermarket, where the shoppers themselves would decide what food is stocked and where that food comes from. Members of the supermarket would even work a few hours a month on the project to bring down prices. Because it wouldn't be making a profit, it would be able to offer good-quality food at good prices - and would mean people have control over their food and know where it comes from. Shoppers may demand organic food, local food, ethical food - or just the food they normally buy but with the knowledge that their money would be staying in the local economy.
They're interested to hear from communities who are enthused by the idea, and want to be pioneers who make it happen - this could be a new shopping model for Britain, repeated across the country. They want to make sure that it's a genuine, long-lasting community project which will still operate when the cameras have gone, so they'll offer help in the form of retail and food experts who can guide the project and make it a lasting success.
