@Carer its also know as the place with the black swans. There are now four. I don't think four swans are going to encourage heards of tourists however a conversational and controversial piece of art will.  I wouldn't worry about it too much though this council can't even hang a flag onto a pole let alone install some new ones. The current planning application allows for public comment and in itself is a public consultation isn't it? I've put my for pence worth of support in and anyone else is welcome to do so. Let's get on wth the 21st century. There will still be plenty of Victorian buildings left in Dawlish.

Agreed. To congratulate themselves for this project is all very well, but the neglect by network rail is astonishing. This year they were forced to deal with some of the exposed ironworks on the beach after a number of us made formal complaints. It's a lot of money. Probably a six figure sum. The council has to sort what causes the problem further upstream first. They are working on it, but there are no quick fix solutions. There are problems dealing with the environment agency, who seem to call all the shots but contribute nothing financially.

The colour was chosen, to my knowledge, by the conservation officer of Teignbrige council, one Richard Bland. Dawlish council wanted a bright colour to go with being by the sea side. i honestly believe Teignbridge council could save some money by parting company with Bland, who is frankly out of touch with reality.

Pardon the intrusion. We are holding our third Macmillan coffee morning on Friday 27th September 2013, as well as giving our profits away for the day(a bit mad for a coffee shop) we will have a raffle and a bottle stall to try and boost the funds. I see the old non working lights linked between the stench pipes above the viaduct have been removed, I am assuming they are not going to be repaired. Anybody know what the plan is? Or are we still held slave to the conservation officer?

Never say never. The squeaky wheel gets the most oil as they say. I am pressing first re-investment in the "impact" part if the town.

It's rather disappointing that there is a three week delay to the project before they have even started. It frustrates me that the council(s) can't keep the public properly informed as to why this  is delayed. Giving proper information wouldn't have cost them much more than an advert in the gazette would it?

The lights on the brook have been damaged by the constant flooding, I understand the council are working on a resolution. the "swan" lights are another issue. For some mad reason it would cost a serious amount of money to repair them. I don't actually know why they can't be removed and replaced with something more modern. the lick of paint is coming. It's highly un-likely that traffic wardens will be paid an enhanced rate for working public holidays at this time if year, but I suspect the parking services office will say regulations apply year round.

Indeed it does.so what reason can there be not to have free parking on the meters as well? Because if that we're made the case, there would be no need to have traffic wardens on a Sunday, which would of course save money. I still think its a mere gesture rather than a practical rethink.

I agree 100%. Its an eyesore and a dangerous one at that. As a historic listed building maybe it should be in a museum, like Avoncroft museum of buildings in Worcestershire. Its presence does nothing for Dawlish, or Dawlish railway station.

David Force is doing an excellent job in driving the chamber of trade forward. The chamber in trade, in turn, is doing its best to promote Dawlish in every way it can, to the benefit of the town. After all the more people that are driven here to live/visit/holiday then the local economy can only profit. The more positive the townsfolk are, the better Dawlish will become.

Well I have suggested a grand row of fluttering flags. If the council put the posts up, I will fund the England flag
