The viaduct now looks great, perhaps they can do something with the train station foot bridge!

Lynne had mentioned this in a previous thread. There was an application to replace the footbridge

Not sure when this is planned.

OK, so at some time in the future hopefully we will have a new train station foot bridge. Excellent.

Network Rail has confirmed that the final colour scheme for the Dawlish viaduct will be granite with red decoration. The whole structure is to be a similar colour to the granite abutments and piers, a spokesman for the company said. She added: ‘The top chord will be painted in a colour similar to that of the Dawlish sea cliffs, in accordance with the suggestion made following consultation with the local authorities.’ Residents had queried the final colour scheme with some describing the paint as ‘sludge-coloured’. However, the finished version will be a mixture of granite and red. The work is part of a £1 million scheme to improve the footbridge and the viaduct.

After the much needed work on the footbridge and viaduct, could the powers that be turn their attention to the five massive posts along the seafront. These only support a string of rather pathetic fairy lights and a couple of antique neon black swans. It would take very little effort to remove them, and the area would look considerably less cluttered.

Good point Gatepost. Just look over to Exmouth and see the attractive lighting along the length of their prom. Investment and acceptance of change has improved Exmouth, just like it has in Teignmouth. The vast majority of Dawlish residents would love to see tangible improvements, tis but a pity that the usual NIMBY suspects hate change. The film 'Cocoon' comes to mind. The sea facing seating and attractive metal pillars next to the viaduct could do with a couple of hundred quid investing in them - anyone willing to lend a hand to do the actual labour???

Well I have suggested a grand row of fluttering flags. If the council put the posts up, I will fund the England flag
