It’s good to see the seafront railway bridge being maintained with a new coat of paint.
But who is responsible for the iron colonnade just under the bridge to the left?
A coat of paint on these would brighten up this neglected area.
I think a repaint so soon after the initial overhaul just shows that we may soon have a shoddy looking station and viaduct after waiting years looking like a rusty, rundown, tired eyesore ,
Admittedly we had the super high tech footbridge that replaced the rusting one and not before time but I imagine this was replaced as it may have become a health and safety issue.
Now I must also comment on the colour which I'm afraid I cannot stand and think looks sickly. I beleive the colour used was something to do with the original colour of the early days of Dawlish railway ? It made me think of paint that they had going spare and that nobody else wanted.
Sorry but a mismatched bodge up as far as I am concerned and Wild Ash has highlighted one of the areas which is sadly lacking
The colour was chosen, to my knowledge, by the conservation officer of Teignbrige council, one Richard Bland. Dawlish council wanted a bright colour to go with being by the sea side.
i honestly believe Teignbridge council could save some money by parting company with Bland, who is frankly out of touch with reality.
Willowsindawlish is absolutely right. Many councillors wanted bright colours for the bridges but Mr Bland apparently vetoed any such frivolity!
After the 'touch up', I think it looks tacky and very unprofessional.
Blotchy square patches. Yuck.
Will Mr Bland be rebuilding the signal box.
Seeing as he is probably classed as a civil servant paid for by the public council tax money whats the proceedure for getting rid of him under a vote of no confidence.
@FredBassett - i understood that the signal box was going to be unlisted as its no longer safe? not sure why they couldn't repair or move it to another location as surely when they
dismantle it , that part of the platform will still need to be sectioned off.
If you want to see what the conservation department do approve of, have a look at the plans on their website for 34 Park Road!!
One day the line may be taken by the sea and the railway forced to by-pass Dawlish and go in land....be no need to worry about the paint colour then lol.
