Went along to the Craft Fair at the Manor House earlier today. First time I've been inside the MH for probably a couple of years or so. Very nice now. Well done to everyone involved in its revamping. It, like all of you, is a credit to this town.

If there is a covenant that says the building must be used for young people's services for 25 years then could it not become the VIth Form Centre that Dawlish Learning Partnership wants for Dawlish? Or, despite the fact that I believe provision of a VIth Form facility features in the Local Plan, is that just aspirational, pie in the sky, wishful thinking? Apologies, but other than the ...

Just thought I'd bring this to people's attention given as council funded homes are closing and not all have the wherewithall to find the money for private nursing home fees. http://www.nhs.uk/chq/Pages/2392.aspx?CategoryID=68 (and yes I know that = public money (aka tax payers' money) going straight into the private sector again but.........we are where we are)
Highly recommend people having a read of the whole of this report (see link at bottom of quote) "As 29% of low paid workers work in retail, this sector in particular is coming under intense scrutiny. A recent report by The Fair Pay Network found that despite collectively making billions of pounds worth of profits and paying their CEO’s millions of pounds a year, not one of the top 4 ...

Ahem! For those who might like to know more about this I noticed that BBC Spotlight featured it in their lunch time programme today. I imagine they will be running the same feature in their 6.30pm programme this evening.

Take a read of the editorial headed "National leaders fail to address local needs" on page 10 of this week's Dawlish Post.
You will remember there was a strike by some NHS staff earlier this week about their not receiving a 1% pay rise. There is an editorial in this week's Dawlish Post on page 8 headed the "National Wealth Service" which refers to that strike whilst pointing out that the trust that runs Torbay Hospital is presently looking for a new chief executive. According to the DP "the last postholder was paid ...

Have just had this link sent to me http://rogerhturner.com/2014/10/16/when-is-a-pension-not-a-pension/ I think the article makes some interesting points concerning an individual's future private pension provision vs the individual's new right to do what s/he likes with their private pension pot. In your 50s? 'ave a read.
The latest from Osborne http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/workers-could-be-forced-to-pay-5-a-week-to-get-benefits-9794571.html (make sure you read the comments underneath the article)
When I sit here typing I am facing east. It is not unknown for me to be here around about sunrise. I have seen geese (but don't know what type) flying from a south westerly direction going over Warren Copse, towards the Exe Estuary/Starcross. Have you tried asking the rangers at the Warren? http://www.teignbridge.gov.uk/dawlishwarren

nor are these my words: "...........the utter cynicism with which Osborne (and Cameron) went about exploiting what was by any measure a global economic crisis for their own ends. Although they now complain of Labour profligacy, one has to pinch oneself to recall that, until the end of 2008, the Tories were signed up to match Labour's spending on the main public servies "pound for pound". They ...
and it would have to be a wall, wouldn't it? I mean, border control checks on just the roads and rail lines would be no good as there is so much open countryside along which the border of England and Scotland runs that it would be child's play to cross over from one country to the other that way. No need to travel by rail or road at all. Talking of border countryside. I was just idly wondering ...

@b.o.liking - pretty sure that the issue of education (tuition fees) and health (nhs) are devolved powers therefore the members of the scottish parliament would have decided on those charges - or lack of them. However, I believe you are correct to say that all MPs elected to Westminster from all four countries of the UK have the right to vote in Westminster on matters specifically English - ...

When I was in Exeter earlier this week I found myself (along with quite a few others) rooted to the pavement listening to some lovely guitar music (sounded Spanish) being played by a street musician. I was so impressed I asked him for his details. Do a search on his name - Stripey Howling Hancock and you will find links. He is definitely a crowd puller. Stripey Howling Hancock, Tel: 01392 ...

Amazing isn't it the info that you come across when you look into a particular subject. Of late, mine's been the UK state pension. And guess what else I've found out about it. Well, would you believe it, depending on which country the UK ex pat lives will determine whether or not their UK state pension gets index linked or not. For example: A UK woman goes to live with her son in the US. Come ...
Yes, awful awful news. Thought it was something serious though as I know someone who travelled that way about 3.30pm yesterday who told me the road was sealed off the Topsham side of Countess Wear and then someone else I know who travelled that way about 8.15pm last evening also said the road was still sealed off. Sadly a road being sealed off that length of time usually means a very serious or ...

Just saw a notice pinned to the bus stop up by Marina Garage. Thought at first that it was in relation to the accident in that area earlier today but when I phoned someone up I knew would be using that road this evening they said they already knew of the closure because there had been signs up for some time saying that is when road surfacing would be taking place. Still, thought I would post the ...

Just got back from Teignmouth. A379 into Teignmouth just by New Road is cordoned off and traffic is diverted along New Road and then down Exeter Road to get into/out of the town.
@leatash - someone in my family was also on the receiving end of a similar attempted scam. thing is though she kept a thorough record of where & when the parcel was sent delivered/signed for etc and then argued her case. she won. the person on the other end kept chopping and changing their story re the 'non delivered'item which sort of made the whole thing distinctly fishy from the very start. ...
On this issue of repainting old furniture in order to bring it up to date............. Take a look inside The Snooky Trust. I was in there today. Up by the counter is a glass cabinet (Edwardian type style/age - I know because we have an almost identical one in our garage). It has been repainted and looks, I think, stunning. I gather from overhearing a conversation between Caz and someone else ...
