I am writing to protest the proposed closure of Hollandia sub post office. We are a typical English rural village, (a Pub, Church, Village Hall & Post office/shop). Your proposed closure would affect the very heart of this traditional environment. It would also endanger the viability of the only shop we have. For many residents who use the PO/Shop, it is a vital form of local contact – sometimes, ...
Alex, you are right, we are not presenting a good picture to the outside world of Dawlish, but then everyone in Dawlish has the opportunity to contribute. I would prefer to see more healthy debate and less cynicism from posters, although I respect everyone’s point of view. If the popularity of the forum continues then I will modify it appropriately by archiving older discussion threads & splitting ...
Thank you for bringing this to my attention, you should now be able to sign up.
Thank you for bringing this to my attention, you should now be able to reply to posts.
The Round Table and Rotary club do not have any influence on this site, and none of the posts should have been deleted. You do not have to register to post in the backyard forum. This could be extended to the other forums although I thought I'd see how it would go down. Feedback is appreciated.
I'm sorry, but you have got the wrong person as the webmaster as I have never lived in the Avenues. My grandmother used to live in Churchill Avenue, but I have never lived there. Whats more, I have not 'defamated' and libeled anyone, but it is people like you who do this, as you have just done with your post. If you read the terms and conditions of this forum then you would know this.
It looks like its a mistake on this site and it should be the south coast of Devon - definitely not north! I think the East Devon Coast is considered to run from Exmouth to Dorset.
I don’t think censorship is necessary or desirable, and I have no intention of letting the Town Council decide what is acceptable and not acceptable on this site. I have received requests from individuals in the past who have been unhappy that their name has appeared on the site for discussion, and I have removed them. The letter sent to the council, and to me, does not mention anything about the ...
I must admit this topic is getting tedious and maybe everyone should just drop it. It does give an incorrect impression of the town, probably because people on the forum are far too focused on it. I drove through the town this evening and noticed how quiet it was now that summer is over. I was born in Dawlish and I know it does not have gang warfare or racial abuse problems, or whatever. It is ...
It may be hard to navigate, but this is still work in progress. We have no problem with moderating it, we can do what we want?! Send us your forum & we will check it out. If its better we will use it. By the way it must not depend on having to register and it must be written in c#, and the database must be SQL Server 2000/2003.
James & business person. I agree it would be nice to have registered users and we already have the capability on the site (login at the top) of which several people (commercial and non-comercial) have access to. However, I think if we forced users to log on to use the discussion forum, then not many would use it. We are considering our options here, however. You are right, people can mask their IP ...
I don't know if it was your post, but one of the posts had an unacceptable and unnecessary amount of offensive language, so I marked the post as 'unavailable', which would have made unavailable all threads below it. Sorry if yours has disappeared, but there has to be a limit, and I really could not be bothered to go through and mask all the swear words. I personally do not want swear words like ...
Yes is was a shame about that as it was a funny post. I responded too quickly to someone's complaint as I was new to hosting forums & a bit naive. The post is still in the database though. I was thinking of having paging on the forum so people can browse old threads.
Thanks for your opinions. We did intend to release a new dotNet version (aspx rather than asp) of this site at the start of the year, which would give the site more manageability. However we do believe that people have the right to their own opinions, and introducing censorship may only put people off contributing - resulting in a narrow-minded set of views. I think some visitors have not followed ...
NOTE: I have modified the wording of this thread as it got a bit 'racist' and so may have changed the truth-value of some of the posts (well, actually all of them). So please don't think the views expressed here are anything to do with the contributors.
Good to see you back missdee. Story can be found at http://www.wate.com/Global/story.asp?S=3318002 But, is it the dog's fault or the owners?
There are 2 numbers representing views & replies. Mindful is refering to replies which are on the main discussion page. The threads show views which are the number of times someone has looked at the message.
Also semantics like '):, ;), :(' all have meaning on the internet, but are not part of any language. So, my point is, don't waste your time worrying about whether every word you write is 'correct'. If some pedant points out to you you may be be wrong, make a mental note & move on. Generally, they are pointing out something you already know or have learned, but forgot...

Hi Ann, I know who you are looking for as Alex happens to live next door to me! Actually next door to where this site is hosted. Isn't that weird? I have been informed that he is currently studying at Nottingham University, although I don't know if it is the original Nottingham University or the Nottingham Trent University as I have not spoken to his parents. I will mention to his father (Michael ...
I have renamed the images. Unfortunately the order is a bit tricky as the page is dynamically generated from a database. I will have a go at this when I have some spare time as it may be an idea to add some order to the pictures.

OK, you can have the post back. Please post your email address Ernest for any complaints;)
Sorry missdee, I don't think I will have the time to do such a change in time for valentines day. Nice idea though. Maybe start a new discussion thread for valentines day or use this one, or use the noticeboard?
It was in the herald express last year, also the news of the world:- http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/story_pages/news/news3.shtml
We've had a webcam in the past on this site, but decided it was too much of an overhead to run. If the guys in the top flat of sommerfields are willing to host one then we can link to it - no problem (I know they are on broadband). I think there is a webcam along marine parade used for surfers to check the surf. Don't remember the site name its linked to though.
Glad you like it. Thought this was the most logical first step. By the way 'no holds barred' as I think we should let allow people to discuss whatever issue they are interested in. I don't think anyone who has posted here has been offensive, maybe a 'bit silly' at times in some peoples eyes, but who cares... (I don't). Post what you like as I have a disclaimer at the bottom of the site! If ...
No, thats OK. I've had a complaint that the 'discussion has gone a bit silly' so I'm probably overreacting. However, its not someone that contributes to the discussion. At least some people are interested enough to post here.
We are currently working on the next version of the website which will solve this problem. I guess the discussion forum is the best place for anyone who wants to contribute any ideas.
Thanks for the info. We have updated the site in light of your comments.
