just wondered if the forum was used purely by us chap's, (appologies mindful, seem not to have noticed the male tone in your correspondence) just a little thought wasn't sure if it was just the Male of the speicies venting our rage or if the female's were joining in as well. Maybe I'm just being totaly stuffed in the head or something.
Hi Fed up
Well I am of the female species and have been reading the discussions for a little while and although I agree with a lot of what's been said I don't seem to rant too much. yet anyway :o)
Things have gone downhill fast since the days of Mindful. Everyone posting here now are imbeciles who cannot spell.
When you start picking on people's spelling you know you've too much time on you're hands, how very sad. :op
Ow dare u say us peeple 'ere on dis site r unabel 2 spell.Dat jus ain't playing the game.Wos a matter wid u.I av allways bin brillant at spellin, ever sins thet I wuz a lad.Sum foke say I a bit gormless tho'.(Aktually,if sum 1 iz thick day be gorm-less,so if sum 1 be clever - jus like I is - they must av gorm? So wot iz gorm?
Well since you asked! :-
'Gormless' comes from the old Scots word 'gaum,' meaning 'attention or notice'. Someone who is 'gormless' lacks attention, doesn't notice things, is tuned out, vegged out, hopeless and clueless.
Gorm is also an Irish word for 'Blue', but (I think) has no relation to 'gaum'.
(I'm not clever, I just checked on Google!)
Anyway i always thought that the key thing about a discussion forum was actually the discussion. Some how didn't feel it necessary to sit down with a dictionary and check everything before posting it. Never mind, maybe one day someone will look past the way something is spelled on a forum thread and actually read the information contained within. thanks for fighting my corner seven8nine as you've probably guessed my spelling ain't great and as soon as one of the other users can't put up an awnser to one of the debates they generally start on about it (again!).
This discussion forum was put in place for those interested to discuss anything, be it about Dawlish or not.
There are no rules about spelling or grammer & if your grammer or spelling bothers you, use a word/grammer checker (MS word for e.g.) & paste your opinion.
if others are offended by your grammer, then remind them this is not an English exam, but an internet discussion forum. Also one based in Devon, where generally & traditionally people deliberatly do not use 'proper grammer' (be he?, is 'em?, e.g.).
Also semantics like '):, ;), :(' all have meaning on the internet, but are not part of any language.
So, my point is, don't waste your time worrying about whether every word you write is 'correct'. If some pedant points out to you you may be be wrong, make a mental note & move on. Generally, they are pointing out something you already know or have learned, but forgot...
