Are people in Dawlish really proud of the quality of messages posted on this board recently? This is a great place to air points, positive ones would make a nice change! I just wish people who hate Dawlish so much would just move on ?

The Webmaster must get sick and tired of wasted message space and people being so rude to each other .. or perhaps that is aceptable ? Perhaps initial postings could go via the Webmaster as in Yahoo groups ? with the aim to up the quality and remove attacks on people like the one posted about the car driver who took the time to post a sensible message.
Perhaps messages could show for just four weeks and clear all messages before.

People must see this website from outside Dawlish as a reprsentation of the people here ..what on earth do they think ? ..

I don't think you should worry too much. At least people are posting on here. The car driver thing was meant to be ironic - unfortunately thats a bit above some posters. Like the idiot who doesn't want 'foreign' food.
Most of the posters on here seem to be teenagers with a sense of humour. Nothing wrong with that in my view though I agree we could do without the insulting stuff.

Alex, you are right, we are not presenting a good picture to the outside world of Dawlish, but then everyone in Dawlish has the opportunity to contribute.

I would prefer to see more healthy debate and less cynicism from posters, although I respect everyone’s point of view.

If the popularity of the forum continues then I will modify it appropriately by archiving older discussion threads & splitting out popular threads or areas into separate forums.

I think my role should be to try and organise the discussion more logically rather than impose my personal opinions.

I know there is much improvement that can be made on this site – and there will be in time, and I am happy to consider all suggestions.

Pensioners need protecting from deviants, but I parachuted into Arnhem. if they try it with me i'll give 'em what for.

I think we should go back to the pre-January days on this board, where our only two readers (Alex and Mindful) were doing a great job.

I particularly think there should be more posted about dog muck, as this is the pivotal Dawlish worry.

I am looking forward to the Britney Spears concert though. I hope it is not ruined by dog muck.

I wouldn't start planning the NASDAQ IPO just yet.

I laughed my nuts off !

A dazzling satire on Pensioners in the classic 'Goon Show' tradition.

Did they take it literally? Oh !

All the lifers here in Wing A (Isolation Ward) love to read 'Dawlish Discussion'.

Everytime people do suggest some new thing - even if it is sensible, you just complain and automatically gainsay it, you ghastly old whinger.

Always in "reply mode". Where's your innovative ideas?

This is pretty much the first time you've started a thread - needless to say, you're whining again.

As for the posts that demonstrate irreverence, you don't think that people from elsewhere, "Outsiders", assume they are realistic representations do you? Don't underestimate their intelligence !

Thank you for that .. trust I speak for M too. the postings have gone even worse since your message. The sooner postings go via the Webmaster the better... it comes to something when all people can talk about for a week is Dog muck doesn't it.

We live in a democratic society we are not an Orwellian yet are we?
There are lots of threads some I dislike others I find humourous others I agree with, that's what democracy is about and you should embrace it.
Two things are important here firstly Dawlish has a forum try finding one in Exeter secondly if you want to censor it you will loose lots of contributions,
Who is to say whats right or wrong.
If you dont like a thread DONT read it

Critisism is good so is change
Just because someone criticises where they live
doesnt mean they hate it.
Change isnt bad either

"Don't Care" - you say if you don't like a thread then don't read it.

Unless I'm missing something here I believe the ONLY way I can know what's on a thread is by reading it. What else do you suggest?

The title of the thread or by reading the first few words you will know if it is of interest to you or not
Bit like reading newspaper headlines

"I don't like Dawlish.........

being slagged off all the time"

So the first few words weren't indicative of the rest of the sentence, were they?

I had to read the whole thing to know what was being said.

I have just spent 10 mins or so trawling through
this forum nowhere can I find 'Dont like Dawlish'etc and even if someone had posted it so what
We live in a democratic society (fingers crossed) you cant please all of the people all of the time.
Debate negative positive or zanny is good, None of us have the right to tell anyone what they should or shouldnt post, uless it is abusive.
I was born here lived here all my life doesnt mean I have to embrace all of it there are things that annoy me things I want to change, Thats what democracy is about

Never Mind - try looking at "Dawlish is Going Down Hill", "School" and "Dawlish" threads just for starters.

It also seems that I am not the first to feel that Backyard threads are mostly negative. Alex made a similar posting to mine about three years ago.

Suggest you check out my response on Freedom of Speech Thread.
