Just thought I'd bump this up as the film showings start tomorrow (Sat 5th).

Seems it depends on the circumstances: An £85,000 benefit cheat has avoided jail despite breaching her suspended prison sentence by shoplifting. Jeanette Bishop, aged 56, swindled money from the state for nine years by claiming she was living alone – when in fact she was sharing a home with a working partner. ...

DAWLISH - 20/00451/FUL - Grattons , Langdon Lane - Extensions to bungalow to include raising of ridge to provide for second storey and construction of rear single storey extension and solar panels PDF 391 KB (on agenda as the applicant is the son-in-law of one of Dawlish's district councillors)
Absolutely agree with you. Have looked up Powderham Events but can see no more scheduled for this year. Hopefully Powderham will get such good feed back that they will make it a regular event in 2021.
Lovely grounds - visited there some years back. So, let's now await the planning applications. On the other hand it could be left for years as a deteriorating eyesore a bit like The Old Rectory along Weech Road and the site of Daw Vale care home along Westcliff. Click here https://www.rch.org.uk/ and scroll down to see announcement of its closure
Click on link below to see latest on outcomes of planning appeals, new planning appeals that have been lodged, planning applications granted by TDC and DTC's planning committee's recommendations on new planning applications. Might not be the sexiest of subjects but remember that planning decisions may well affect you. https://www.dawlish.gov.uk/edit/uploads/3098_1978034236.pdf
@Deedoodle (and anyone else interested in following this through) suggest contact Cllr Val Mawhood about who owns the land (I've just checked and TDC does not) and once that is ascertained, whether or not vehicles are allowed on it (I'm thinking especially of dogs off lead, and small children). Cllr Mawhood is a mine of information concerning Dawlish and on top of that look where she lives! Deputy ...

In January of this year local residents got fed up with the state of disrepair of the building. Here is the minute of that agenda item and ...
The 2 x planning applications from Network Rail concerning the railway station and wall are due to be heard at the next TDC planning committee meeting starting 10.00am on Tuesday 18th August. As it happens Dawlish has three councillors who sit on that committee. So if anyone has any strong feelings one way or t'other about what is being proposed by Network Rail/what the town council would like to ...
Posts on EoD saying this scheme has now been stopped after only one week. The cancellation has been confirmed by a councillor.
Just remembered another brown field planning application presently going through the system - the development of the site of Shell Cove House into 6 dwellings and garages. https://dawlish.com/thread/details/47101

I've just received, privately, the message below. As I couldn't for the life of me think why it should not be posted, publicly, on here, I've done it instead. Here is the text: "Most of us knew that this would happen. There have been many times I have walked down to the bridge and watched them working with 15 men just standing around of their phones. They worked a lot faster to repair the rail ...
What else should we expect? Would it be British exceptionalism at work again?
so......we have to wear face masks when we go into shops but not if we go into pubs and restaurants. Indeed, we are positively being encouraged to eat out by way of the £10 discount presently being offered. "Eat out to help out" is the mantra. And the logic is? If we need to wear face masks in shops and on public transport then surely we need to wear face masks in all other enclosed areas. ...

Submission to TDC from DTC's Planning Committee Teignbridge Local Plan Review Members resolved unanimously to submit a response with the following comments. • To ensure the wording of the plan is clear and concise and is not open to interpretation. • Climate change – (page 80). If trees are to be increased, existing woodland should also be retained with preservation orders in place. • Environment ...

On a not unrelated issue - anyone know which pubs in Dawlish and the Warren plan on opening/not opening on Sat.
Planning application approved by TDC planner
@Burneside - anyone else 'caught' transgressing the rules who held positions of authority have resigned or at the very least apologised. Cummings has done neither. And whether he or you like it or not his position in No 10 means he is in a position of authority. If he cocks a snoop at what people are supposed to do, or not supposed to do, then others will follow suit. It is as straightforward as ...
Article here by Baroness Altmann, a Tory peer and one time Pensions Minister, on why the 2.5% bit of the triple lock should be 'revisited'. At one point she quotes the full state pension amount for those in receipt of the state pension since 6.4.2016. Just to point out that you only get that amount if 1) you have 36 years worth of the right type of NI contributions because 2) if, for example, you ...
Well if Dawlish town gets anywhere as busy as Dawlish Warren was yesterday (Friday) afternoon I'd say the restoration of their normal food chain is imminent.
You mean the one that gave him that definition of retard without pointing out that it is now used as a term of insult? No thanks.
Given that Cllr Taylor's name was mentioned in the above press release I thought I'd see if I could find anything by googling his name. Found his facebook page. There is a recent thread on there concerning the latest proposals from network rail to revamp Dawlish station. Seems to me from reading the thread that Cllr Taylor is expressing his disquiet concerning aspects of the proposed design and ...
Yes. I agree with Lisa Nandy. But I wonder if Barry Gardiner decided to take a leaf out of Dominic Cummings book and do his own interpretation of the rules. P'raps Boris will let him use the rose garden of No 10 to explain his actions to the press.
I see from the papers that Opticians are pushing to be allowed to open up again. Makes cummings sense to me.
Childcare has been defined to exclude relatives caring for children in new coronavirus laws following the Dominic Cummings scandal. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/coronavirus-laws-dominic-cummings-lockdown-childcare-relatives-a9542381.html
Have to confess that I've been distracted by the cummings and goings of national politics of late so not that familiar with what has been happening locally, politically, and as I no longer buy the Dawlish Gazette (does it still exist? Thought I read somewhere that it has ceased being) I've had no information from that source. So....what has been happening politically, locally, then?
Doing what you are advised to do is only possible if you can figure out what the advice is that is being given. It's taken almost a week for a fair chunk of the country to figure out what bamboozling Boris was going on about last Sunday. Here is one analysis. "people don’t want to be told that they should take a greater risk of getting ill in order to keep the economy going but can’t see their ...
Not sensitive. Just posting an answer to the second question you asked.

My error - I was using the expression 'care home' sloppily such that I was using it in a generic sense to cover not only care and nursing homes but also sheltered, supported living, and retirement homes and such like.
