With many of our councillors running businesses, perhaps this 'unit for youth' is being geared up as a minimum wage finishing school? After all, council decisions usually end up benefiting councillors personally.

Response to Joey Deacon (also know as; chicken shed/seagull/joe orton) I fully understand the meaning of the word bigot and you encapsulate it perfectly. You also, appear to live in a world of cliche and generalisations, the domain of bigotry. Time to reappraise yourself perhaps?
Agree, especially when you take into account we now have a reporter on our local paper who is likely to show huge bias towards his council colleagues and mayor.
On Radio 4's consumer program 'You and Yours' (01/07/2008), it was stated that some catering establishments (pubs/restaurants/takeaways) may be using a blend of Vegetable oil which includes GM modified Corn oil. According to Trading Standards, if this is the case, these establishments should be displaying this information on their menu's and on prominent signs. Keep your eyes peeled.
This is scandalous and illegal. I trust this will be investigated and reported in our local press? It should be,as this is an affront to the people of Dawlish, who have put their trust in this man. First of all it was the trees and now this illegal sale of land. Mayor Protheroe should be made to resign from council duties for such abuse of his position. Heads must roll.
Blimey...you could be describing our local council (snouts in the trough, etc....)! Agree with your sentiments.....all main political parties have merged into a middle-ground, 'hamster on a wheel' nothingness. The climate is ripe for true socialism and the rebirth of unions. Or at the very least, a genuine caring community. Oh Thatcher, so much to answer for.......
That's because you allow those morons to run it! Start by questioning and demanding transparency from your local councillors then work your way up to politicians. They are all corrupt in some form or other.....but if enough people put pressure on them then they crumble; showing the parasites that they are. Perhaps then, our town will be even better! ps-congrats to Exeter City! Next year Torquay ...
What do we need a Mayor for? Surely this is the most impotent and useless badges of office known to man. Isn't it about time this relic of a bygone age was abandoned to the annals of history? I see it is this chap Protheroe again....no doubt using the chain to network for the purpose of feathering his own nest; all under the premise of council business. Let's bring this redundant nonsense into the ...
We are getting off our backsides and dissent is growing rapidly. But as you probably realise, these self-serving councillors will not put their hands up, confess and resign. They have their fingers in too many pies (and planning committees, etc) to let go of such gravy trains. That is why my hope is that a Youth Council would help fumigate this den of collusion and rid Dawlish of these sly ...
So, points well made with sentences and paragraphs equals waffle? With your original statement, it would appear you are just the kind of dullard our council has preyed upon all these years. Revel in your ignorance as it's probably all you have.
Bob, You also raise a very interesting point. I wonder how willing the Protheroe's would be to revert the land they have built such ghastly apartments on, back to allotments? After all, they do 'so much' for their community..... But we all know that whatever they do, it is just a ruse to facilitate the building of their empire.
That's the problem with these people at the Mount Pleasant....they think they're upmarket. In reality, it is more akin to a greasy spoon with a wine list.....full of people who also subscribe to this superior attitude, not realising that they are paying through the nose for the view.
Bardwell, The reason my postings echo those of others is because, like them,i have become disillusioned with this secretive council of ours. And i am not alone;there are many others, all new to this site, who will begin to express their distrust of the people who claim to represent us and not themselves in local government. Why do you resent such debate? Are you part of that 'inner circle' ...
