A 35-tonne truck has been abandoned after being swamped by the sea in Devon. Network Rail said no-one was injured and it was investigating how the truck became "overwhelmed by the incoming tide". Two people were believed to be trapped within the vehicles. The winter storms moved about 100,000 tonnes of sand and damaged sea defences at Dawlish Warren. The work includes creating a new embankment on the warren, strengthening the seawall to protect buildings in Exmouth and moving about 25 million tonnes of sand back on to the beach. Teignmouth Coastguard and an ambulance crew were called to Coryton Cove, Dawlish after an eight year old girl got into trouble in the water on Saturday afternoon. One fire appliance from Dawlish attended a car on fire, which was well alight on arrival. Crews used two breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets to put the fire out. Crews also used a thermal imaging camera to check for hot spots. The cause of the fire was accidental.
