Sandy Bay in Exmouth has scooped a Blue Flag in the 2014 awards list announced today.
Dawlish Warren has also achieved the prestigious Blue Flag award for the 16th year running and Teignmouth Town Beach, Coryton Cove at Dawlish and Ness Cove at Shaldon have all won high-profile Seaside Awards, formerly known as Quality Coast Awards.

Great news for the tourist trade and other local businesses. Great news too for tourists and locals alike, knowing that they can enjoy these quality beaches.

I wondered it it was possible that Coryton Cove could ever win a Blue Flag or whether it involves factors beyond its control e.g. size and tidal effects.  Here are the criteria:
