Yet more reason not to go into Dawlish town centre?

The Working Poor. Bit of a long article but shows what it is like to be a poor but working family. Feel sure we have similar situations in the south west as well. http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2012/mar/17/life-britain-working-poor
As a lot of our Dawlish teenagers continue their education at Exeter College I thought it appropriate to post this on here. Well done to all concerned. (My daughter is very proud to be a student with you). http://www.exe-coll.ac.uk/News/Article.aspx?id=298
I need someone to measure, make and then put up some new curtains. Do any of you have any recommendations?
Just had this back from Strongvox: "All of the labour that will be used at Swan's Rise will be of a sub-contract supply and fix or labour only nature. The best route to persue would be to visit the site office and make an enquiry their. For you information all sub-contract orders are not yet placed."
Okey doke - will do it a bit later - promise.
Just a reminder that if you haven't responded yet you have until 4.30pm Friday 2nd March to do so. This link should take you to the relevant online page - look to the right for the various aspects of the draft strategy including the proposals for Dawlish. http://www.teignbridge.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=15096 Lots in this week's edition of the Gazette about the proposed number of houses and ...
I see from this week's Dawlish Post that the outlook doesn't seem too good for those in Teignbridge who are seeking work. (see page 3 "Three Chasing Each Job Vacancy".). And remember, those figures only relate to people claiming Jobseeker's Allowance. Don't forget that there are many others who would like to work but who don't sign on for one reason or another According to the article, Devon ...
Doh! I left out the page number! It's on page 6.
Anyone else see the advert in this month's Dawlish Diamond asking for volunteer visitors for those in the Dawlish area who, for whatever reason(s), are leading very lonely lives and who are in need of some company. If you can spare some time whether it be as little as an hour a week, a fortnight or a month the Dawlish and East Teignbridge Volunteer Bureau would love to hear from you. Tel: 01626 ...
To use an awful pun - it seems the state of the economy is beginning to bite. See page 5 of this week's Dawlish Post - article headed "More Needing Help As Cash Crisis Bites". Increase in numbers in Teignbridge, including those in work, needing emergency food parcels, money etc. See my posting above for contact details.
Yes I saw that and thought along similar lines to yourself. On this question of energy. Thought you might find today's lead story in The Independent of interest. http://www.independent.co.uk/
This link should give you the agenda for tonight's meeting. http://www.dawlish.gov.uk/edit/uploads/885.pdf For those with a numerical inclination a scroll down to pge 8 will bring you to the draft budget for 2012/2013.
Don't have a problem with more social housing being provided. It's needed. I have a problem with the fact that presently much of it is only provided via developers being told that they have to provide some if they wish to build open market housing (which may or may not be needed). And the social housing problem in the 80s was aggrevated, then as now, by the Right to Buy legislation.......... ...
This link gives more details. It also refers to the 31 affordable homes that form part of the development. http://www.thisisdevon.co.uk/pound-12million-high-quality-new-homes-plan-town/story-12748921-detail/story.html
Do you have any particular interests? If you let us know that might help us give you some leads. Are you looking for paid work or voluntary work or both?
Channel 5 are looking for couples to appear in a new TV series which is currently in production . They are looking for couples who work together to run their Eatery, which can be anything from a Restaurant, to a Cafe, Gastro pub, Bistro, Curry house and more! The series ...
So....is the objection only to the meat lorry (because of the competition it gave Maunders) or is there a general view that stalls should not compete with shops or stalls with stalls? I ask as I seem to remember there were quite a few stalls selling cakes and savouries (so competing not only with each other and but also with any of the shops that were open selling the same). And several stalls ...

Sorry, obviously didn't 'register' the earlier, and recent, thread on this.
I've asked about this and from what I've been told it seems that all the comments made and preferences expressed via this consultation will be looked at, considered, and discussed by officers at Devon County Council. Then they will give their recommendation(s) to the councillors at Devon County Council who presumably will make a decision to either follow the recommendation(s) - or not. Don't ...
For those of us who can't see the wood from the trees as it were, please can we have this pattern explained. Thanks.
Thursday 17th November. 6.30pm at Forde House, N. Abb. Simon Thornley, TDC's Service Lead for Spatial Planning and Delivery and Naomi Harnett, TDC's officer responsible for the district's town centres and economic development, will be giving a talk on Localism in Action. Anyone going from Dawlish?
Sorry to hear about your loss Libby and in particular the way it happened. It's devastating to lose a family pet under any circumstances but to lose your dog in the way you describe must be even more hearbreaking.
Yes I thought that was a tad expensive for Dawlish as well. It will be interesting to see if their are any takers at those rental prices. When will the 'affordable housing' be built? Good question. Ask the planners at TDC.
Yes, I know that the allotments at Browns Brook are rented out by the Luscombe Estate to the town council. What I'd like to know though is why, given that the Luscombe Estate is sooooooo big, don't the owners give that land (and more land as well?) to the town?
Information exhibition runs from11am - 4.00pm at The Strand Centre (URC Church), Dawlish this Saturday (15th October) and TDC's Home Energy Officer will be at the event from 11am -1pm giving advice on grants and low income loans for making homes more energy efficient.
Well said Don.
@Brazilnut Let us just say that these homes do get built. Why are you presuming that they will go to the children and grandchildren of those of us already living in Dawlish? They might. But as far as I know there is nothing to say that will definitely be the case. And for that reason, and many many more, that is why the likes of me, DP and Neilh are asking all these questions, looking at the ...
Deadline is 4.30pm Friday 7th October. So....either do it online or by hard copy. If by hardcopy and you don't wish to send it then: Written responses can be dropped in to Jen's sweet shop/ Chrissie's Flower shop/ The Snooky Trust or 16, Church Street by late Thursday and will be collected and delivered to Forde House on Friday. Please pass this information on.
As far as I am aware DARE is a group of people concerned with questioning and challenging a lot of what has been in the past, and is now again, being proposed for Dawlish. You may have noticed that I also do a lot of questioning and challenging. I do not always agree with DARE but for what it is worth I am very glad that the organisation exists.
Don't forget the meeting being held tomorrow evening!
Question/comment # 3 - Schooling. As there's no new primary school being shown on the plan I take it that Gatehouse school will need to expand in order accommodate all the extra kids emanating from the 1600 new houses to be built just across the way and to the side of it. But......hang on a minute......... hasn't Gatehouse recently lost land to the development scheduled to be built on Mr G's ...

Wonder if any of our town centre traders would wish to attend? Perhaps some kind soul could bring this event to their attention. Information forwarded by the Devon Towns Forum TheSomerset Town Forum invites you to share experiences of supermarket developments in our towns over the last 5-10 years. The event will be held on 5th October in Shepton Mallet, please see attachment for further ...
@flo I've not heard a date mentioned - all I've heard is "soon". Wonder why it's thought it won't be popular with residents........though I understand that if that should turn out to be the case the public will be perfectly entitled to tell 'them' where to shove it! (allegedly). We shall see.
