From looking at what is now being proposed and what was being proposed back in September here is where I think the differences are:

September 2011 Proposals = 2,000 new homes over 20 years

January 2012 Proposals = 1300 new homes over 20 years (and I believe this number includes the 76 new homes at Newlands/Gatehouse that have just received planning permission)

In both instances though, the total figures include 400 homes (in addition to the 76 referred to above) that have already received planning permission but are yet to be built or are in the process of being built. eg the Secmaton Rise development and the Secmaton Lane/Gatehouse development on Mr Goodrige's (ex) cornfield.

The 20 year period starts wef 2013.

Proposed housing - September 2011 consultation

North West of Secmaton Lane 1400

West of Southdown Road 100

North of Meadow Park 50

Littleleigh, Holcombe 20

Cockwood 30

plus the 400 already with p/p = 2,000 total

Proposed housing - January 2012 consultation

South of Shutterton Lane 350

N.West of Secmaton Lane 460

North of Meadow Park 50

West of Southdown Road 20

Littleleigh, Holcombe 20

plus the 400 already with p/p = 1300

Changes from September to January

As well as an overall decrease in the total of new houses proposed note the following: the Sept 2011 proposed development at Cockwood has been removed but we now have 350 homes south of Shutterton Lane. The number of new houses west of Southdown Road has fallen from 100 to 20. The number of new houses proposed for N. West of Secmaton Lane has fallen from 1400 to 460.

So it looks like they have taken into account the original comments on the housing projections being way too excessive compared to forecast population changes. The numbers above in the Jan 2012 consultation look about right.

Just thought I'd post a reminder that the latest version of the draft Dawlish plan plus the draft plan for the whole of Teignbridge (aka The Core Strategy) will be available for inspection this coming Tuesday (24th) between 2pm and 8pm at the United Reform Church.

Might be a thought to have a think about how the proposals for Dawlish not only affect Dawlish but also places near to it and equally how the proposals for other places in Teignbridge might have a knock on effect on Dawlish. After all no town or village exists in a vacuum.

There is a piece about the core strategy in this week's Dawlish Post - page 10.

Just a reminder that if you haven't responded yet you have until 4.30pm Friday 2nd March to do so. This link should take you to the relevant online page - look to the right for the various aspects of the draft strategy including the proposals for Dawlish.

Lots in this week's edition of the Gazette about the proposed number of houses and whether or not infrastructure like the sewage system and the A379 would be able to cope with the extra pressures placed on them.
