Quite a row going on between our great Chief Constable and Anne-Marie MP over driving to take exercise or to walk the dog. When the lockdown was brought in, I thought 'that's ok, I can drive up on to Haldon, put the car where there's no others, and walk, keeping well away from any other people I might meet. Silly me. Our ostrich-like CC declared this was 'not in the spirit [whatever that means] of ...

Spotlight interviewed a Devon farmer the other evening, and asked him if British workers ever came to pick the berries. He said 'yes, but they don't last more than 2-3 days'.
Have to say, normally on a sunny morning (like today's) the sky is pretty full of con trails. Today, not a one.
Yes, lovely DEEDOODLE, thanks for posting.
I guess I'm late catching up with this, but for anyone who hasn't heard - Dawlish Minor Injuries Unit is closed while this is going on: they advise using N Abbot MIU instead.
They do that in the summer holidays, not sure about Easter.
Well done Mr Chamberlain - shows up Tony Rowe for what he is, doesn't it ?
Yes, it's certainly to do with the works on the seawall but I don't know exactly what.
Bad Luck, DEEDOODLE, it looks as though you won't be able to. Nigel has announced 'his' party won't stand in any constituency where the Tory got in last time.
Yet now, according to the TV news, local councils are busy taking these notices down, saying they have no right to be there. How much crazier is this country going to get ?
Going back to Ziggy's post, if the local police think Dawlish has a city council then they really have a problem.
But occasionally, when the swans haven't nested successfully (or some b***'s dog has killed the cygnets) then they do buy in Black Swans, possibly from Slimbridge.
Hm, there does seem to be an HTML error in there but it didn't stop me reading it !
Just realised, my post above should have said MCA not RNLI. Apols to them.
Good news, thanks wondering.
He was indeed a lovely man. He used to come in to the Museum every morning for a cuppa and a chat. Nice to hear hjis story being retold.
Sorry, should have said, the link is to the combined timetable for 2, 22 and 222 from the Warren to Teignmouth and back.
In the Herald Express yesterday, a little puff for the Cavanna development called 'Barley Meadow'. Quoting from memory now so not word-perfect ... "Facilities in the area include two primary schools, a college, shops, a supermarket, banks and a leisure centre." BANKS ???
Apparently we are now supposed to be grateful to pay 70p for a 'new improved' Gazette on Fridays. The old free Dawlish Post has disappeared.
Hm. I guess this will still allow cars to get to the Starcross sailing club ? What about Powderham Corner (to start the towpath walk towards the Turf) ?
They keep talking about "£80 million" but what he said (at least, what he wrote in the local paper) was "up to £80 million". That means "maximum £80 million", doesn't it ?
I guess this means the 187 ? And I was told by one of their drivers they run two school buses as well. I don't know what the implications are of needing a PSV licence (maybe they have such a thing already ?).
And now,HMG apparently wants to raise the target from 620 to 777 houses a year. Does anyone know why ?
What a weasel word 'misspoke' is.
This website's 'Societies' page is worth a look. I agree with Duckileaks, too much negativity on this forum. Also note the Leisure Centre where there is lots going on. Agree the train is the best way to go to Exeter.
Thank you @leatash , and the same from me to everyone here.
Agree with Calamari, nice pics and Kestrels indeed.
And now, according to today's i newspaper, the same people are complaining that they have to look at the gorilla's backside.
I agree it looks unsightly atm, but this kind of pollarding is necessary to extend the tree's life. It will grow again !
Well, we are continually being told that £xxx is earmarked to bring this everywhere, especially rural areas. What about parts of Dawlish that haven't got it yet ? e.g. where I live (the West Cliff area) ? How many other parts of Dawlish are still struggling with copper cable ?
Well, a Cross-Country train came through fine yesterday just before 11. And the sea didn't look particularly rough.
I don't really need to jump in here, but I'm with leatash, majorp and vicks here. Excellent service from both Barton Surgery and Torbay Hospital. The behaviour of the receptionists at the Surgery has improved no end in the 17 years I've been here. Maybe I've just been lucky ? I'm very sorry some of you have had different experiences: particularly with the Surgery, 'cos there's nowhere else you ...
Fascinating, the ideas some people seem to have about how to carry out a 'consultation'. I've got it, Humphrey, let's go and ask some people who are already in the main streets of Dawlish whether a new 'play park' would encourage them to visit Dawlish ! Yes, Prime Minister !
Sorry Lynne, your 'funny' was too subtle for me. Forget I spoke.
Thank you, majorp. I can't see that it says anywhere just why this is suddenly such a matter of concern that it needs a fullscale CSC enquiry. Does anyone know ?
