General Discussion

Not only do employees working at County Hall have to pay for parking, they are also not allowed to park there every day, so some days they are forced to use transport other than their own car to get to work. I suspect this scheme is cost effective, being funded from the parking charge. How many of us who work for private companies that give us free parking would accept having to pay or not being ...

SEAGULL PROBLEMS
13 May 2011

I think the onus should be put on householders and businesses to prevent them from nesting on roofs. If everyone took action the problem would be much reduced. We make sure they don't nest behind our chimney, but we have close neighbours who don't seem to mind having seagulls on their roof - and we get the flack! Perhaps there should be a bylaw to make it illegal to let them nest on your roof? ...

Eating Out

A bit of an eye opener, thanks! To be fair, you have to check when the inspection was done as if it was a while ago they may have improved by now. But, it's interesting to see some who've had a recent inspection ... =================================== http://www.dawlishblue.co.uk

Seagulls

One answer would be to stop them nesting in the first place by putting seagull spikes on roof ridges so they can't land, and by blocking up nesting areas on roofs (wire netting works) so they can't build their nests. We've managed to stop them from nesting on our roof. It's kinder than shooting them! The council could help by putting up more seagull spikes around town, for example, on the top of ...

A new cycle path, that's an excellent idea! Good for Sainsburys. Why stop it?

Black Swans

The problem is, if you ban the drinking of alcohol in a public place, it then applies to everyone. Which means a family wanting a tin of beer or glass of wine with their picnic on the lawn in summer wouldn't be able to. And it could make it difficult to get a licence for a beer tent for an event on the lawn. Do we want to stop EVERYONE from enjoying themselves just because one or two are a ...

The Strand
27 Feb 2011

Smokey, I do get it! I'm local, live in the town centre and I do ALL my weekly shopping in Dawlish. I don't use out of town supermarkets, and I manage it very well without parking on the Strand. I either park in the Co-op car park on my way home from work through the week or WALK at weekends. If the Strand was pedestrianised and brightened up it would attract more LOCALs as well as visitors. ...

Some shops in the Strand have well cared for shop fronts, but they are let down by the ones that do not. All those businesses with peeling paint work, tatty and grubby window displays, weeds in the forecourt, etc need to brighten themselves up. Put flowers out in summer (there are many spaces where small flower tubs would go). Get rid of the cars, and make it an attractive area to stroll in, then ...

I also received a reply from Anne Marie Morris' secretary containing that sentence. Like Carer, I thought it was very 2 faced of her. I didn't vote for her in the last election, and won't in the next. I'd rather have an MP capable of making up their own mind than one who just toes the party line.

Fight The Public Bodies Bill! - There is still time to write to the lords and ask them to drop the forestry clauses from the Bill - keep OUR forests owned by the public, and run by the forestry commission. List of lords here - http://www.parliament.uk/mps-lords-and-offices/lords/
