I heard today that all Devon County Staff receive half price travel on Stagecoach buses. I have emailed John Clatworthy Deputy Leader DCC to confirm whether or not it is true, he has said he will get back to me.

Nice one, I wonder who John will pass the book to to explain this little perk then, Take it this applies to all journeys and not just travel to and from work. This sort of thing should be subject to the last round of council cutbacks surely.

If true, how many people work there?, must be a lot as there around 60 councillors, each one receiving £25.000 a year for theri own pet projects.

I should have mentioned even though he's deputy leader he said he would forward my email to Ian Harrison the boss.

Thanks Lynne, Strange the Deputy Leader could not answer that question.

MugOnHead. Here is the answer I received.

1. The only staff eligible for reduced price travel are those who work at County Hall (including employees of Devon County Council, the Primary Care Trust and Community Council for Devon.) All these staff at County Hall are subject to car parking charges, and part of the income from these charges is used to fund the reduced fares.

2. The reductions (as of 1/5/11) are not necessarily half price - it depends on ticket types : singles and returns @ child price (approx. 2/3 adult fare); Exeter Dayrider £2.00 (half price), Weekly Megarider £6.00 (half price), Explorer £4.00 (instead of £6.50) and Weekly Megarider Gold £11.00 (half price).

Does that mean they refund Stagecoach?

Not only do employees working at County Hall have to pay for parking, they are also not allowed to park there every day, so some days they are forced to use transport other than their own car to get to work. I suspect this scheme is cost effective, being funded from the parking charge.

How many of us who work for private companies that give us free parking would accept having to pay or not being able to park every working day? I know I wouldn't like it!
