Just come back from a walk around the lawn and saw 8 beautiful black swans. The gardens look lovely too anyone know who looks after them now?

Bit late now, but had you gone just 80 yards away, to the shelters, you would have found human excrement and urine there. Not nice ,but true. A nice guy called Peter is maintaining the park, why not say "Hello" to him.

scouser i know what you mean, i have also seen the state in which the shelters are in. What i find amusing is the no smoking sign in the shelter which seems quite irrelevant as i think thats the least of the problem. I have spoken to the police on many ocassion about this problem but have been given the same answer. It is not illegal to drink alcohol in a public place in Dawlish, it's up to the council to put a ban on this but they don't seem interested. Teignmouth did so why not Dawlish?

The problem is, if you ban the drinking of alcohol in a public place, it then applies to everyone. Which means a family wanting a tin of beer or glass of wine with their picnic on the lawn in summer wouldn't be able to. And it could make it difficult to get a licence for a beer tent for an event on the lawn. Do we want to stop EVERYONE from enjoying themselves just because one or two are a nuisance?

Given that the police use antisocial behaviour laws to arrest law abiding citizens exercising their ever diminishing rights, I would have thought that they can move them on or threaten them with arrest for antisocial behaviour.

To me, antisocial behaviour should refer to behaviour that most people find antisocial and drinking whilst already drunk, defecating and urinating in a public shelter is clearly antisocial. Drinking a glass of wine with a picnic isn't.

I think if the police are not going to use a law for what it was intended but rather use it for dubious purposes that suit them or make their job easier then it should abolished. The reason the police don't do anything about it is not because drinking alcohol is legal it is because they couldn't care less.

Perhaps a " No Shitting or Pissing" sign could have an effect!!! Not....Only the police with the backing of the Council can begin to tackle this.

We have just 5 swans remaining out of 15 originally brought over from Australia. The water is filling up with silt and one of the reason why the swans are moveing elsewhere.

The Environment Agency and Teignbridge District Council are meeting next week to discuss what can be done. A spokeswoman from Teignbridge District Council said " De-silting is a very costly exercise and we always have to ensure there is good reason to spend taxpayers money on major work"

It is said keeping the swans in their natrual habitat is expected to reach thousands of pounds! Maybe we will lose our swans but keep the seagulls!

Perhaps we could paint the seagulls black and pretend they are swans?!

They'd do it if it was teignmouth , but as its dawlish they dont give a shite(not even the one in the shelter). As those that sit in the shelter are drunk and using drugs, then the Police can do something about it. Instead they chose not to as they are lazy. The next time you see the police, take a look at where they walk. They avoid all the places that the scum hang out, that way they wont have paperwork to fill in, and can instead enjoy a leisurely stroll in the sunshine.

You know what, You may have the "mindset" right.. I reported an untethered staffie, which was allowed to threaten a black swan, recently, at 2.50 p.m. I went to great lengths to point out the current location of the person, but SHE... went in a different direction. What is the "Handover time" for the police??? Not Happy.
