A bit of an eye opener, thanks! To be fair, you have to check when the inspection was done as if it was a while ago they may have improved by now. But, it's interesting to see some who've had a recent inspection ...

Baileys doesnt suprise me at all. Probably the filthiest place ive ever eaten at. One place i would never ever set foot in again.

Any place that isn't displaying their rating has a very poor one, one shop in Dawlish has a 2 rating and another has only 1, neither of those is displaying a certificate in their shop window.

And the Lansdowne! Yet the Pirates Chest gets 4 stars (Good for him). I wonder though from this list how old the ratings are - anybody know?

If you click on the link

http://ratings.food.gov.uk/QuickSearch.aspx?q=dawlish

to go to the hygiene rating page, the name of each establishment is a red hyperlink, so clicking on this will take you to the details about the specific place and when the last checks were carried out.

Why does Dawlish not have more decent restaurants? I'd love to be able to eat out more in the town on a Friday night after hard week of slog, but where? Why no decent italian?

Seems there is plenty of choice in Teignmouth, why not our town?

Because not enough people would support it. Dawlish badly needs a decent restaurant, but people would soon moan about prices.

One welcome addition is the new Bow Windows. Hard working couple who are willing to offer good product at a reasonable price. Think they've had a few teething problems but I have good feeling. Already an improvement on previous

It's as simple as stated previously, places that have tried evening opening simply don't get enough customers to make it worthwhile. Just about everyone I know goes to Smugglers to eat out of an evening, they are always busy.

A few words just to put the record straight on this issue. Early last year, (2010) our establishment was given it's annual hygiene inspection and as usual we were told that standards were good and the place was clean and tidy. One minor fault, to replace some cellulose filler around the sink. However we were also told that under EU regs we are now required to document our procedures in a Food Safety manual. Ok, more paperwork for a small business but you get used to it. We produced the manual, trained the staff and duly followed the procedures. However, the Food Hygiene department did not come back to see if we had done as they asked.

This March (2011), i.e. one year later, I receive a letter telling me that based on the last visit (March 2010) we were found to require serious improvement i.e. we had to produce the manual. We were therefore graded as '1' 'Requiring Major Improvement', the lowest grade available. The fact is we had done eveything we were asked to do but the council had failed to come back to look.

Obviously I was a bit annoyed and got on to councillors etc. The grading has now been withdrawn although no apology was forth-coming. So please don't take all this at face value. This is Teignbridge Council after all.

Passed the terrace this morning and was good to see it flying its 5 star rating , seems that alot have decided not to show them. Perhaps they should have been forced to, as they do in other areas of the country. I suggest we only use those that are prepared to display ratings.

Really surprised to see some of the ratings! The Lansdowne 1 Star! Guess i wont be eating there then! How did Baileys get a 4? Surely they must have minus rating they can give it? They should insist that the star rating is visable and clear to see - otherwise the rating system is useless, they should have like they have it abroad where it is illegal to remove stickers that the authorities put in place! May give the sub standard ones a good kick up the backside and get thier act together!

Got this from Eyes of Dawlish

"Getting reports of another violent fight in the Landsdowne last night, spilling out into the street, Glass and Blood all over park road!

When will this stop!!!!

Landsdowne need to introduce Plastics NOW!!"

So not only do they have a one star food standard rating - you can get you face smashed in at the same time! Sounds the perfect place to go for a night out - if you are a complete moron that is!! Hope all the tourists that are planning to come down here this summer keep well away from there!

We keep saying that when we come back down that we will try the Welcome for a carvery. Has anyone been there and whats the food like..... ?????
