If Tesco had opted for Lady's Mile in the first place instead of trying to concrete over the playing fields they might have been more successful and not put people's backs up. It all smacks of sour grapes to me. In the meantime the people of Dawlish are missing out and have to drive a few miles to visit a supermarket. Surely not very eco-friendly?
Tesco misread the public mood when they applied to build at Sandy Lane and they are now being vindictive and trying to stop anybody else being successful. They are such a big organisation that they think they can bully their way into doing anything they want to. I have recently been to Bristol and seen how a large Tesco dictates the market for the surrounding area. Be aware that if they move into ...
The roadworks are presently causing the town to be paralysed. A lot of people are bypassing the centre of Dawlish & going elsewhere for shopping as it is so much trouble to negotiate round them. I've never seen the Brunswick & the Strand as empty as they've been for the past 2 days.
I got to the bit about "celebrating diversity" and suddenly lost the will to live.
Many roads in Dawlish are blighted by armies of wheelie bins which have to be left outside the houses, especially in the older parts of the town, because they don't have anywhere else to put them. The pavements are often like an obstacle course & it certainly doesn't add much to the scenic value.
You know what they say, Jacky, boys will be boys
You don't necessarily need a qualification for book-keeping. Book-keeping to trial balance can be learned when you are working; a lot of it is simple common sense and good mathematics. After the trial balance a qualified accountant usually takes over. This is how I learned it but I am not the person that orchid lady is talking about!
Don Never mind the name, I think "pompous airheads" is the most brilliant description I have read so far on this site. And by the way, I'm always prophesying in vain - no-one has ever believed me. Aaaaaah!
TDC are such hypocrites. On the one hand they are urging people to be active, not to be "couch potatoes" or "obese"; on the other hand they close down sports facilities such as the Teignbridge Indoor Bowling Centre (which is now derelict) and the Sandy Lane golf course on some spurious excuse. The question is now what are they going to do with this land. Anyone know?
Bit of an empty threat,Roy - wrong time of year for those.
