Now is the time to stop whinging, get off your arses and make a difference to our wonderful town. As per the news item on the home page of dawlish.com, proposals for the regeneration of Dawlish go on display at the Shaftesbury Theatre next Wednesday. This will be open to the public from 6.30pm. Get there and get involved. There are no excuses!

But the newspaper only mentioned a small number of the 36 proposals. And obviously the report majored on the headline-grabbing proposal re. a casino (which I would have thought is the one that's least likely to come to fruition - although I'm pleased that the people behind the plans are thinking laterally). Why am I not surprised that the usual moaners and groaners on Dawlish.com haven't got anything to say about this very exciting news?

Save it from what, I only visit Dawlish when ever I can however, the reason I visit it is because it is unlike where I live now, Leeds, which has the "regeneration," it also has all the things you have not got that come with the hustle and bustle. 35,000 registered Heroine users. a 1 in 5 chance of been burgled in the year a 1 in 9 chance of having your car broken in to. a 1 in 4 chance you will be the victim of a crime. Beggars on every street corner, used drug needles in the gutter, homless sleeping in shop doorways, is this what you want, because with hustle and bustle of a busy town come the other half, the scum, the rot and the stink, if you want the rainbow, then you will have to put up with the rain ! 4th December is a Friday, do they not realise people work? Why not put them on the internet and then people can view them at leisure and also comment on them immediately?

Given there has been no response or detail to the first meeting and no mention in the newspaper this week, must be a spoof!

I take it you don't live in Dawlish. If you can't be bothered to get off your arse, then Google is your friend...

The Regeneration Study by a company called LHC is available on the Dawlish town council website (www.dawlish.gov.uk) You have to zoom right into the last page of part two of the presentation PDF, to read any details... Many good points, are made. But looking at the portfolio of LHC architects makes me wonder if Dawlish is suited to their “big white box, glass and steel” approach.

I got to the bit about "celebrating diversity" and suddenly lost the will to live.

Ok, I read through the whole document online, which had to be zoomed to 600%! I was surprised, I actually agree with alot of what they propose. My only concern would be that the buildings they are proposing i.e, lawn pavillion, new bowling club house in town and bike hire and cafe and visitor centre at the Warren would be too modern looking. The area as a whole is old fashioned and that is what I love about it, I think many will agree. My old town was steeped in history and culture and was ruined by the erection of too many new buildings that were not designed with this in mind. I hope this does not happen here and that the designers bear this in mind when these plans start to be put into effect.

Well said Cal. I 100% agree with your comments and also hope that should these plans come to fruition then any new buildings are architecturally sympathetic to the town. I'm really pleased that the consultants have recognised that the Number 1 priority should be a major tidying up and a lick of plant everywhere! This would be so simple, so low-cost and yet so effective! For example, who is responsible for the Viaduct area? Network Rail? It would take no more than two days to paint the metalwork (bollards, arches, etc) around the Viaduct, and yet it would make such a difference. I wholeheartedly support the majority of the proposals. I hope that the funding can be found and that, importantly, the people of our lovely little town play their part too in making this happen.

Whats the point ?? If you believe that, then you must believe in Santa Claus and fairies. What has happened to the Millennium Bandstand?? Remember that?? It is now coming up to 2010, and STILL no bandstand. The current one is an eyesore and an embarrassment to the town. The Investigator will expose all what has happened to Dawlish and what will be happening to the town on his website. The only way to do anything to this town is to demolish it and start again. Get rid of the druggies that infest this town. The unruly brats as well. Make their parents take the blame. Also, the single mums. Ahhh. They have done so much for the economy of this country. They all have money to smoke, sit in cafes, get their hair and nails done, always got the latest mobile phone, and always find time to get drunk. Get rid of that lot and this town might be decent again. The Investigator has spoken.
