Margaret Thatcher

@Brazilnut I thought you weren't going to post here anymore.  Can't keep away?

@Lynne Yes, I do think the 80s were better than the 70s, that is my personal view.  And as for Thatcher being divisive in death, I expect there will be just as much vitriol flying around when Blair dies.

You are quite right wondering , 70s Britain was not a great place to be, it took someone like Thatcher to sort it out.  Some people have short memories.

I lived through Margaret Thatcher's time at Downing Street (and quite a few others before her), and despite her faults I would rather have her than any of the current political leaders.

@Michael Thompson I  wonder how many other local sites you are using for your own ends. As has already been pointed out, there are plenty of politicial discussion forums out there on which you can vent your spleen.

I really can't take anything seriously that comes from the mouth of a former oil industry executive, and who now resides in a palace.

When we opened the doors to eastern Europe EU countries in 2004 the government estimated 13,000 would move to Britian,  The true figure turned out to be over one million.  I can see a similar deluge happening next year.

Yes

No doubt somebody will be along shortly to defend this dreadful woman.

What a very odd comparison to make; Dawlish, Totnes and the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.  Is there some relevance, I'm presuming you once lived in Tower Hamlets.
