As an outsider, but a regular visitor, I have always favoured the idea of keeping the one way system down the Strand, but NO parking EITHER side. Widen existing pavement one side to narrow the roadway but still allow any loading or unloading of goods vehicles. Introduce speed humps. Disabled parking to be catered for naturally. Many people nowadays are too bone idle to walk anywhere. (Towns such ...
I am starting this thread in the holiday category but I think it will end up in the general section - it normally does.Am I doing something wrong? Not a hot week for July by any means, so may return to the old format of September visiting next year. Our balcony was not used as much as we had hoped. Used the car much more than usual too with visits to Dartmouth,Buckfast & Killerton. ...
My wife & I often do walk under the platform, on our way to the Warren, but the pigeons & crap do not particularly bother us. We are well used to being crapped on!!! Any one who can update us on the boat trips from the jetty?
Not posted for a long time. Saturday & Sunday good, Monday not so good. What has happened to the 'Bay Trip' boatman? Has he 'sunk' without trace? Seaweed on the town beach on Saturday & Sunday was not cleared till the Monday morning. Back for a week in Mid-July.
Thanks to Don & Ziggy for their comments. My original posting should have gone under Holidays as previous. The dog situation I am sure is common elsewhere, not just Dawlish. It was really just an observation. I'm not sure why the cat comment came from Sid? I never said I saw any cats on the beach. My wife & I are outsiders, but have been visiting Dawlish for years now, often 2 or 3 times a year. ...
Last weeks Negatives. Dog owners ( Locals, I am sure) continue to abuse the summer beach laws. I counted at least five occasions either on Coryton beach or Town beach that owners were allowing their dogs to wander in the evenings. When are we going to be able to visit the Shaftesbury Theatre? Nothing ever seems to be on there when we visit. Not enough places open in evenings for decent food.(as ...
I am replying to my own posting here! Not a bad week-end at all. I see Salamis has closed (won't cry about that) and also the gift shop Inspirations? I think it was called. That had only been opened 3 or 4 years back. Had one take-away from the Chippy on Queen Street but the staff seemed to be at sixes & sevens on that Friday night. Ate at the Witches Bowl on saturday night. To offset the ...
Clean your windows, sweep your streets and tidy up your beach as we are visiting Dawlish this week-end for 3 days. B*ll*cks to the recession, cold weather, and the dire state of the country as we are having a break and gonna spend some money - that is if any shops, cafe's and restaurants are open?
Don't normally watch it anymore, but just happened to see Place in the Sun last night. Usual format on this type of programme where a couple are shown several houses but end up buying nothing! They were looking for a house in East Devon & were shown one in Dawlish Terrace? I think it was probably filmed in 2007.(It was very sunny!!) Did show some film clips of the lawn, sea front,Gays ...
Despite the forecast, last week wasn't too bad. Friday morning was especially interesting along the sea wall!! Never seen it like that before in September. No boat trips though. Our normal eatery, the Ugly Duckling, now closes in the evenings & we like to eat out every night. Not impressed with Baileys, despite its upgrade.Tables not cleaned etc.One to be avoided. Salamis is only ...
