A BUSINESSMAN who owns a shoe repair and key cutting shop in Dawlish has hit out at a nearby supermarket’s plan to build a Timpson at its Exeter Road store. Ben Elliot, owner of Park Road repair shop, Be Repaired, says that Sainsbury’s plan to build a new retail concession pod in its carpark will adversely affect his business.
More business means more employment and more tax revenue, so it will pay for itself and probably other things.
So get businesses that directly benefit from tourism to pay for it. Are we living in times of austerity or not? I don't see the tourist trade having such a positive impact on the wider community, we have to pay higher water bills to deal with the seasonal increase in sewage and the impact on local beaches. Council tax in Dawlish is the among the highest in the area, I don't see the tourist trade ...
@Steve It'll be going on in this country because it's profitable. The RSPCA turn a blind eye to cruelty against animals every single day of the year from farming to horse racing. What makes anyone think they'd intervene in the halal slaughter of animals?
Why is it even going on in this country and where is the the RSPCA?
It's a great idea. It's the type of thing that attracts tourists.
The money could be spent on much more worthwhile things. Painting that shabby railway viaduct for example. No money to reinstate the other Manor Gardens bridge, but there is money for a statue of Brunel??
