Ian Carroll, who has managed The Cove Cafe at Coryton Cove since it opened around five years ago, said the cafe would be “severely affected” by the closure, as the only remaining access will be via the cliff path, which is steep and has lots of steps, or via the stepped footbridge. Access to the busy Dawlish beach and promenade will be disrupted this summer as Network Rail starts the final phase of building a new sea wall for the resort.
