General Discussion

Being able to wander around a town where you see people feel safe leaving their doors and windows open says it all. Please ignore the one or two on here who delight in making mountains out of molehills.

The planning application has been approved. From the Herald Express: START Developers have been granted planning permission to build 61 homes inspired by the seaside after councillors backed themselves into a corner. Councillors passed plans for the contemporary homes at Dawlish Warren despite the applicants ditching plans for a much-needed nursing home, which had been part of the original scheme. ...

Are there recommended/standard guidelines re. social housing? I personally would have thought that 30% of this proposed development is a more than fair percentage. In my opinion, as long as the tenants respected their property and their neighbours, then I'd be happy if it was 100%.

I don't know whether this is a good thing or not. On the one hand, personally it will affect (though not spoil) the view from our decking, plus the fact that new homes on this scale should surely go hand-in-hand with new infrastructure at the Warren. Mains gas would be a start! On the plus side, the development might also breathe new life into the Warren - ahead of the hoped-for regeneration ...

Wondering, do you know whether a licence is required in order to operate a ferry service - I suspect that might be the case but don't know for sure? The Teignmouth to Shaldon ferryman has certainly had to jump through a lot of hoops in order to be able to operate his excellent service.

Harrison's Revamp

What excellent news that the facade of Harrison's Amusements is to be renovated/modernised. I completely agree with David Force that for a long time now it's been an eyesore, so hopefully the council will give it the green light when they consider the plans in August. Together with the expected £1.5million facelift for the Strand, things are continuing to look up for the town.

It's a shame but hardly surprising. Still, at least we've got the free Exe Festival to look forward to. For those that don't buy the local newspapers, this is what the Herald Express has to say about the Amber Coast Festival: A THREE-DAY festival in Dawlish Warren has been cancelled with three members of the board of directors resigning. Critics had warned that Amber Coast Events' August festival ...
