merry christmas
23 Dec 2013

Merry Christmas to all and thanks @FredBassett & agreers for your kind words. Also, this site would not be much without the contributers and posters so many thanks to you all and keep posting. Every year I give out the statistics for dawlish.com, so here are this years compared to last years (in brackets): Period: 24 Dec 2012 - 23 Dec 2013: Pageviews: 650,859 (599,827) ...

@Lynne , Please feel free to debate any subject. I didn't remove Paul's thread because of the subject matter, but because of Paul's comments. It would be the same, for example, if you had posted the links you have with racist comments, but you haven't.

Paul's Thread
13 Dec 2013

@FredBassett , I agree with free speech and rarely remove comments. I didn't remove the thread because of the news article. I believe that paul's comments were offensive and hateful towards a particular group of people and hence in breach of the terms of the forum. The thread could be reinstated but I think I am right. I am happy to consider people's objections. I don't want to be unfair or ...

I've decided to kill the 'India bans gay sex' thread started by Paul since it was clearly intended to express a homophobic prejudice rather than to start a legitimate debate on the news story. Since the comments by Paul were offensive - to gay men in particular - it breached the t&c's of the site. Apologies to those who took the time to comment, especially Neilh who contributed a poem.

Islam at its best
8 Dec 2013

@User 4549 , your last post with the same title 'Islam at its best' turned out to be a hoax for which you apologised. In your new post, some Muslims broke the law and were jailed for doing so. So why is this Islam at its best? I have already had complaints about racism on this forum and I am concerned about the tone of your posts and where you intend these posts to go.

Sorry @FredBassett , I really don't see anything wrong with what @Sbooty has started here and what @Brazilnut has contributed to in this thread. The regeneration and the new strand are the things people are discussing at the moment and I don't want to censor or delete posts just because people disagree on things. It wouldn't be much of a forum if people were not allowed to disagree...

sorry @neilh , at the moment there is no voting module available, but i will look into getting one. also, i'll look into having a disagree button.

Well it is not necessarily true that the thread should run in the opposite direction. Most forum threads run in order of date posted from top to bottom. You are probably thinking of 'comment' sections on news and social sites which are not forums. However, I had considered the problem of having to scroll down on long threads a while back and thought of a solution that would suit this site ...

@wondering , the problem with having separate discussion sections is that people tend to just ignore them and post in the most popular section anyway. in the old days, we used to have a 'council/politics' section, but everyone posted in the 'general' or 'backyard' sections. By the way, it doesn't have to be set up by me because anyone can create a new discussion group, which is basically the ...

Hi Don, Sorry, but if it is not in your outbox it didn't reach Dawlish.com. You are right though in pointing out it would be good to be able to save a message before sending it so I will look into doing this before the next release.
