Totally agree with you there Devondel - he's fantastic.

Ahem! It seems to me that this thread just like ever so, ever so, many others has been hijacked by the "are the councillors corrupt/freedom of speech debate". Extremely worthy as these debates are, can I request that you start a thread of your own and debate the pros and cons there. Cheers Isambard K

You leave my railway line alone! It's got years left in it.

This is from today's Herald Express: Network Rail has announced there are no 'immediate' plans to re-route the Penzance to London line away from the seaside resorts of Teignmouth and Dawlish.Councillors, including David Cox, expressed their 'relief' at the decision which was heard at a meeting of business representatives in Exeter. The rail company has ruled out any changes to the route for the ...

I'm not surprised there were limited numbers using the bus Dawlish/Teignmouth given the exhorbitant fares Stagecoach were charging. Why do you think I use the train?

Last time I took the bus Dawlish/Teignmouth return, the fare was around £4.00. It's something like £1.10 return on the train using a Devon & Cornwall railcard. So....I guess the cheapest bus fare return Dawlish/Torquay would be the £6.00 day rider or whatever it is called. But no through bus anymore - have to change (twice - once there, once back) at Teignmouth. Take the train! Cheaper, quicker ...

Totaly agree. Take the train. Young persons railcards, Devon & Cornwall Railcards, Senior Citizens Railcards - between'em they should cover the vast majority of the population here. Devon & Cornwall Railcard. Costs £10 for 12 months. You have to be resident of D or C to qualify. You then get third off from off peak railfares. You can take another adult with you for the same deal. Children under ...

I bet the view of the Exe estuary was fanstastic on a clear day like today. Yes, the Devon & Cornwall Railcard really is good value. £10.00 per 12 months for the card and you get a third off rail fares (off peak only unfortunately) within Devon & Cornwall. I believe children under 16 travelling with the card holder go for £1.00. Open to all Devon & Cornwall residents. You can even use it to get ...

Yes - fantastic views are what you also get when you travel on my railway between Exminster and Newton Abbot. I see Dawlish still has the mainline station I built for it and that it is still open. Dawlish needs to 'sell' that rail track I built. After all, how many other places have a a rail track that gives fanstastic views whether you travel to Dawlish from Newton Abbot or from Exeter?

The Day Rover Stagecoach bus £6.00 ticket can be good value if you use it a lot on that particular day that you are travelling. £4.60 something return fare Dawlish/Teignmouth is most definitely not good value. It is a rip off.
