You now have instead a new bus from Teignmouth to Torquay and Paignton and on to the Zoo. Journey takes same time from Dawlish, you just have to change tis easy.
Buses still every 15 minutes from Dawlish all day to Exeter and Teignmouth .. handy for people now hey.
Mind by train a Devon £10 annual card gets you to Exeter £1.95 return and Newton is £1.65 return..cheaper than petrol and parking charges.

Totaly agree. Take the train. Young persons railcards, Devon & Cornwall Railcards, Senior Citizens Railcards - between'em they should cover the vast majority of the population here.

Devon & Cornwall Railcard. Costs £10 for 12 months. You have to be resident of D or C to qualify. You then get third off from off peak railfares. You can take another adult with you for the same deal. Children under 16 travel for £1.

With D& C card it is £2.00 return Exeter Central/Dawlish. Somthing like £1.70 return Dawlish/Newton Abbot, and something like £2.60 Dawlish/Paignton. It is thus much cheaper and also much quicker than bus. Only the over 60s get cheap (free) bus rides. Stagecoach fares are extortionate.

Take the train!

you can also get things called plus buses with a train ticket too, sometimes these cost from £1.30 - £2.50 extra on top of your train fare but say you wanted to go to the zoo from paignton bus station it would cost you more than that. also you can go from paigton to brixham on a plus bus. i use mine to go to the rd&e when i need to go there as there are frequent buses that go from the train station.

The question was asked, "y the hell cant we get a bus direct to torquay anymore! grrrr!"
Now, not knowing what the fare was from Dawlish to Torquay and not knowing what the fare is from Dawlish to Teignmouth and then from Teignmouth to Torquay, it is difficult to answer factually.
But I bet there is some guru on here that could work it out and come to the conclusion that it is for a better return to the bus company at the expense of the tax payer.
I have noticed Stagecoach shares rising recently.

Last time I took the bus Dawlish/Teignmouth return, the fare was around £4.00. It's something like £1.10 return on the train using a Devon & Cornwall railcard.

So....I guess the cheapest bus fare return Dawlish/Torquay would be the £6.00 day rider or whatever it is called.

But no through bus anymore - have to change (twice - once there, once back) at Teignmouth.

Take the train! Cheaper, quicker and no changing.

There was limited passenger numbers from Dawlish - Teignmouth even in the summer, otherwise rest assured the through journey would still be there.
Late night journeys from Torquay on Saturday nights Midnight, 1am amd 2am, direct to Dawlish were not used so withdrawn in 2006.
On fares...Goldrider £22 for the week = £3.14 a day, no time restriction, for work or travel all of Devon if you want..

I'm not surprised there were limited numbers using the bus Dawlish/Teignmouth given the exhorbitant fares Stagecoach were charging.

Why do you think I use the train?
