1) "it would kill off the town centre - all of us who walk to do our shopping, and there are many of us, would loose out if our butchers, bakers, greengrocers etc are killed off by out of town trade" So if there are 'many of you' shopping locally then local shops will survive!! I would guess by the number of shops that have closed in Dawlish over the last few years that most people already shop ...

Firstly, payments by card attract bank charges, the 20p covers this. One advantage no-one seems to be aware off is that if you are going to be late back to your parking you can pay for extra parking by phone so avoiding a penalty charge. However, as previously stated, it isn't compulsory, if you don't like it or want to pay the extra 20p then just put your money in the slot!!

Quite right 007, without the 'threat' fromSainsburys the Co-op would not have bothered to expand, even though the newer store is a disaster area. I realise they can only complete the process when the old shop is revamped but the changeover so far is a total shambles, many customers have simply walked out without buying anything due to the chaos. I still haven't heard of a sensible objection to ...

Sour grapes from the Co-Op, they only decided to expand into Woolworths when Sainsburys started building, up till then they got away with very poor stock levels, a dirty store and poor service. This proves beyond doubt that competition is good and any store will stand or fall by what it offers customer. Tescos are not cheap, that is why I don't shop there, they sell a lot of cheap products, that's ...

Quite right Smokey, you will be charged for calling the 08 number from a mobile, even on a contract, Orange charge 17p per minute to call an 0845 number, that is the point I am making, call the landline number and that is usually included in your call plan. The call plan usually includes calls to GEOGRAPHIC numbers, eg with a dialling code, an 0845 etc number is classified as non-geographic hence ...

An 0844 or 0845 is not a number, it is simply a 'diverter'. You can only have an 0844 or 0845 number if you already have a geographic, ie landline number to divert the call to. So the 'old' number will work as it was never disconnected this is simply the number to which the 0844/5 number is diverted. If the number is engaged or you are kept waiting then it simply means the number is busy and it ...

Interesting and amusing story: Tesco has cut back its offer to refund double the difference on products bought for less in Asda, blaming "savvy" shoppers. The supermarket giant said that it would now only refund the difference in price - rather than double the difference. It claimed that a "cottage industry of savvy and determined people" had been making money from the promotion. In March, ...

Tesco are already in Dawlish, it's called One Stop, been owned by Tesco since 2003 and there will never be a 'white elephant' Tesco or Sainsbury store, both companies are far too clever to let that happen. Pricewise, Tesco are more expensive for a lot of their products than other supermarkets, trouble is most shoppers these days are easily hoodwinked by the flashy ads in most supermarkets and ...

Eating Out
27 Apr 2011

It's as simple as stated previously, places that have tried evening opening simply don't get enough customers to make it worthwhile. Just about everyone I know goes to Smugglers to eat out of an evening, they are always busy.

I wasn't aware of this until a few people told me what was happening and how impressed they were that Sainsburys were doing something for pedestrians and cyclists. Well done Sainsburys.
