As it happens I don't think Tescos will just give up if Sainsbury's try to come here. I just think it might make it more difficult for them to build on me. If they want to go somewhere else and build I don't really care. I quite simply don't want them (or any other supermarket) on or near Sandy Lane playing fields.

To slightly correct the above posting concerning the location. I understand the land concerned is immediately on the Exeter side of Shutterton Bridge. So....Shutterton area somewhere then? (At least it's not at or on Sandy Lane.)

And why does all that you say equate to having to have a supermarket sited at Sandy Lane?

If some of the reasoning behind Dawlish needing a supermarket is to stop car journeys to Newton Abbot and Exeter then surely as long as there is a supermarket somewhere in the Dawlish/Teignmouth area it doesn't really matter where. So.......given that I understand Waitrose have pulled out of Broadmeadow (in Teignmouth) why don't Tesco go there? They'd be doing the community (the combined one of ...

It's not just the football pitch that is leased by Dawlish Town AFC. Tesco also want the football pitch behind it as well - that's the one that is used by Dawlish United and is known as the Hockey Pitch. That pitch is not fenced off and is very definitely part of the publicly accessed playing fields.
