Yes, council debts count as part of the National Debt and so need government sanction As far as I am aware, Councils are generally trying to cut debt - not increase it.  It is the proverbial "dead money" that is difficult to sanction when you are having to cut old people homes, day centres, youth services, libraries, school transport subsidies etc etc etc.

It would take a book to give that a serious answer Lynne you may be aware that the funding announced today for the Carlton Theatre in Teignmouth comes from the Big Lottery Coastal Communities Fund

DCC have agreed to suspend on street parking charges in Dawlish at weekends until the end of the month. This is in response to a request from the Chamber of Trade to help local shops and cafés whilst the train line is down. Please be aware that this does not apply to the car parks.  These are free on Sundays until the end of the month anyway, but on Saturdays charges still apply.

Just to update people on the pothole situation I rang Devon Highways this morning to chase up repairs to the A379 on Teignmouth Hill and near the Zebra crossing on the Exeter Road They tell me the situation is getting worse, and they can no longer meet the target of repairing main roads within 24 hours.  They have extra teams out and are doing the best they can. There is now a Facebook page Dawlish thanks the Orange Army For those who wish to add their comments to the Appreciation of the men (and women too!) who are working daily wonders to bring our railway and seawall back. I appreciate from comments on this site that not everyone thinks it necessary.  That's cool, it would be a dull old world if we all thought the same :)

I have asked FGW for an update on when they will be able to restart a service between Exeter and the Warren.  They tell me that they cannot run services to Dawlish Warren because (1) The line is needed to transport materials (2) The signals are still damaged and (3) the station is needed as a depot.   They promise to re-establish a service as soon as they can, and appreciate our forebearance in ...
