Here is an idea imported from the Antipodes. In NZ & Australia to raise funds for local groups (schools, scouts and the likes) they held what thay called 'sausage sizzles'. They went like this .......

Local supermarket would supply a bbq and gas for use, with most supermarkets also suppling the chilly bins with ice to hold the uncooked sausage in (all of course tax deductible for them) 

The groups would book a day for its use, usually 10 to 4pm. They set up the bbq just outside the supermaket doors and sell bbq sausages wrapped in bread with sauce/mustard for a nominal charge (after purchasing the product at cost from the supermarket) 

Usually those cooking were dressed either in uniform if appropriate or in fancy dress, to give a lovely, happy vibe to the whole thing. With them selling at the equivelent of say 50p, they used to be busy, busy, busy all day. 

A great way to fund raise, far better than these chuggers, easy to set up and fulfills everyone's needs

Would that work here? 

Lovely idea Chef, and I'd happily buy and scoff a sizzled sausage after negotiating a supermarket, especially Sainsbury's who don't have a cafe. I aplaud your positive thinking.

But I'll leave it to others to go into the H&S, food safety, environmental and insurance hoops that you need to jump through in the UK!

As for chuggers, everyone needs to make a living, but...........

I must admit in NZ it meant local councils had to give them special dispensation from the likes of wht you mention. The restrictions were : meat has to be kept on ice, disposable gloves worn when handling the raw meat and hats worn. None of which are biggies to overcome. 

Hopefully though, those regularly fund raising can pick up on this and run with it. I would be more than happy to get involved with any organization(s) wanting to press ahead with it, or with the local Sainsbury boss (if he or she is reading this)

Unfortunately the same would apply here. Food Safety Cert as a minimum and probably one of the new fangled hygiene certs too. Great idea though, I wonder if the Enviro Health Dept would waive their rules for charity. Someone should try it.
