Hello all. A reply to my previous post asked me if I was planning on any cooking demo's locally. I was planning on a bit of a sabbatical, but I am always open to suggestions for serious consideration. Whether that be for commercial purposes or to support the local community, fund raising, schools etc. If anyone is interested in either, has ideas, serious suggestions or knows who might be etc please let me know and let's get cooking ! (=|:-D
How long do you plan on being in Dawlish? Knowing that might help us with some suggestions. For example, do you plan on being here during the spring and summer?
Hi Lynne, I've fallen in love with Dawlish, and taken a long term lease on accommodation. I also have family in Plymouth, so yes I see myself here for the long term now (=|:-)
I should probably quantify that by adding I am originally Plymouth born, so I do have roots in the south west :-)
We have the Red Rock centre in Dawlish which is a recently opened activities and learning centre for the young people, not 100% sure on what daytime activities are carried out there but they do have fully fitted teaching kitchens. Perhaps some of our more informed posters may give you more info on that.
just read Flo's post, Its on Sandy Lane just up from the football ground and before the leisure centre. From the Warren turning off the main road and heading for town its the second turning on the right
You could try contacting Andrew Davis, the Principal of Dawlish Community College, to see if he has any ideas as to how you might do some work with the students. DCC students use the Red Rock Centre.
Oh and why not see if Helen Chance-King can be of help. Check out her website: http://www.thinkcookery.co.uk/school.asp
This may be of interest. Evening classes are also held at Red Rock, its not just for students.

There is a contact name and number on the site.
Thanks for the link Flo. It's brilliant that we have such a fabulous resource in town and that they are already widening their target audience. I believe that this centre is fairly new, so well done to all concerned with bringing this to Dawlish.
Are those courses being offered now, in 2012? I ask as from looking at the info available online concerning Red Rock Skills Centre it seems to me that the courses offered refer to 2010 and 2011.
Thanks for that ladies & gents. I will contact the DLP tomorrow & find out what's what. So stay tuned :-) In the meantime for the foodies out there, check out my online recipes etc at www.tallyrand.info or www.hub-uk.com or google chef tallyrand or chef jos wellman. Feel free to contact me for recipes or to help solve any cooking conundrums you may have. Happy cooking!! (=|:-D
