I visited friends in town tonight (Tuesday) at 7pm and walked the length of the Strand, oh my, so depressing. I lived in Dawlish 10 years ..in that time the shops were little supported by locals. Remember this is way before Sainsburys arrived.  Trade was always down to visitors, without them there was little point in a shop.. Yes no cost. Many people who could have one dont seem to, so they must be happy to pay the full price. I guess people who get heating allowance etc and dont think they should....there is nothing to stop them from sending the money back!

Casandra. That reminds me of watching a family in the summer eating chips along by the Tourist Info..parents were allowing their children to feed the Seagulls with some chips. Soon a number of seagulls arrived...the family realised if they contunued feeding them they would have none to eat themselves! ..so they shewwed them away!! ..but the gulls didnt want to go!   Must be tough being a seagull ...

When it was NOT acceptable to walk around outside eating a pasty and chips, the gulls would stay out at sea on the cliffs. Then it was pointless for them to come in town This problem is made by the 'wonderful' new society we have. She didnt mention how kids need 'top of the range' expensive mobile to communicate by text with mum from bedroom to kitchen and not shout down the stairs.... 'whats for tea'.  If only you could take away the mobile expense.. just may get communication again..do you remember talking?.
