I may be misreading the intention of your post which appeared to express sympathy to the man's wife but not for the distress of the man himself. According to the article, he was not a councillor. He was an employee of the council who found himself unable to reconcile his personal ethical standards with the Counci's expenditure.

Further to Joey's reply, there are also two duplicate bridge clubs in Teignmouth and one in Shaldon. Teignmouth Bridge Club meet on Friday afternoons 2pm at the Alice Cross centre.
