@Carer - if it was your daughter (& grandchildren) who was 'a teenage single mum with a couple of kids' in desparate need of housing I'm sure you'd be thrilled if the council put her near the top of the list! I'm surprised no-one here hasn't joined in with you adding immigrants to the list.

At one point I think that the people in the United Reformed Church (don't know what they call themselves now) did a big book sale, they may be interested. Someone else to ask is Angie at the Council offices in the Manor, she has lots of connections to groups around so may know of someone.

The petition is a typical knee-jerk reaction.  How, practically five-minutes after the accident, does the originator of the petition know that speed is a factor? Where they there or are they making an assumption based upon the tittle-tattle of contributors from Facebook?

I think Fred is probably right, and even if they do paint the bay what's to stop other disabled badge holders from parking there - unless there's a great big sign saying for Tony only! (which would still get ignored)

The Town Council are responsible for the waterfowl. I do remember hearing that the birds in the aviary were there for display and woudn't be released onto the stream. The birds on the stream are wildfowl and not technically under the remit of the Council (except the swans) None of it makes sense!

Town Council results are being announced - another Lib Dem victory. I'm pleased to see 4 independents being elected too.

Strangely though, planning was the one they didn't go to. I find it frustrating, they are literally place holders. Just there to stop someone else.  Party politics stinks (yes, I know it always has)

Hiding in plain sight! Organising many of the events in the town e.g. the Christmas market, the Let's all go down the Strand event, being a part of the rejuvenated carnival etc etc.

I vote for the person standing locally or to prevent their opposition getting in. However, if Corbyn is still leading the Labour party I'll definitely vote Conservative regardless of local candidates

Dawlish definitely. Ignore the doom-mongers above.  I've lived here for 26 years, my OH 's family for generations, all my offspring and now grandchildren live here. We love Dawlish.  Like small towns everywhere there's good and bad.  There are plenty of clubs/societies you can join, there's lots of voluntary groups who would love more support. Thanks Leatash, having lived by the Lawn for a number of years I am well aware that a SMALL number do choose to do that.  Thinking back to when I was that age I had under 18 discos to go to, there was a youth club (when the 'less than cool' kids used to go), and I was getting served in pubs at 14 - licensees are a bit more careful these days! For various reasons I couldn't see the procession on Friday but have seen it on the facebook page - looked great. Having spoken to someone on the committee it's interesting to note how few councillors went to any of the activities and that the town centre manager was also absent all week

DTC are caving in to pressure from the Chamber of Trade who want the play park under the impression that it will bring more business.  The Town Centre Development Manager is pushing for this too. Yet the people who actually use the Lawn like the Charities, the Carnival, the Air Show (which may go ahead again) are being virtually ignored.
