It certainly has changed in 30 years we had a great range of shops butchers there were 4, wet fish shop, 3 veg shops mens outfitters remember Woolworths and Somerfields, 2 jewellers, shops along Park Road.  I remember Dawlish packed with visitors from Easter to the end of September the flowers around the Lawns were amazing and the town was cleaned daily the brook was dredged on a regular basis and ...

Professional beggars preying on the elderly, they should be arrested.  It's illegal to beg in this country.

Lynne has made some excellent observations. I would also add that the number of eating establishments in Dawlish has been unnecessarily increased by those places of worship (so-called “churches”) turning themselves into cafes. Interesting that you use the word “Dullish”.  Sounds like a blast from the past... Bringing the Town Manager and CCTV into your rant is irrelevant. However you do have a very valid point about begging in general. It’s disgraceful that people have to beg in order to put food on their plate. This is 2017.

You obviously never travel on trains during peak time! Mind you, with your police pension you could probably afford to travel First Class to Teignmouth and back...

I have witnessed two beggars walking around Dawlish begging for money. I personally apprehended one and laid the law down to him. He gave me a lot of flack but I stood my ground. Disapointingly there were still people giving him money. Today he was outside of the post office(Strand) begging from old aged pensioners who I presume had just drawn their pensions Where are the police, where is the town ...
