A man from the Newton Abbot area has been charged with two offences of assaulting a police officer and one of public order. The incident occurred in a Dawlish pub on Tuesday. David Williams will appear before South Devon magistrates on Tuesday, June 24th.

Powderham Castle is to lose its licence to host weddings after its owner refused to allow two gay men to hold a civil partnership ceremony there. Lord Devon reportedly said the request for the marriage at Powderham Castle clashed with his religious beliefs. Tesco has confirmed it has dropped its controversial plans to build a store at Sandy Lane, Dawlish. The land at Sandy Lane which is used by Dawlish Town Football Club is no longer a consideration. The company has said it will be unveiling plans for a store at another site within the next few weeks.

Dawlish is to have a open air ice rink for the three day May Day bank holiday from 3rd to 5th of May. The town council chipped in £1,000 towards the hire charge. The rink is organised by the Dawlish Chamber of Commerce at the cost of £4,000. It is hoped it will attract thousands of visitors to Dawlish.
