So they've changed the rules then since I was alive. In the past it was the sale of raffle tickets that got you a seat on back of a milk float with a lot of lace doilies stapled to it. (or a tractor pulling a flat bed trailer wrapped in tinsel.) It still begs the question, if it is now awarded on looks, are the Judges blind? Just look at some of the Prize Pigs in recent years. You can put lipstick on a pig, but it is still a pig. This explains the Dawlish Carnival Queen. God knows from which collective farm they find these ghastly porcine creatures. Have you seen them on their float - plus attendant 'piglets' waving woodenly. How about some cute royalty instead, chosen on looks?
