Makes you wonder why they continue to live here doesn't it?
Are you calling me riff raff?
Devonian. Why I moved here as opposed to anywhere else is by choice. Why are you so defensive about a bit of criticism of Dawlish? Is it because it comes from an 'outsider?. I know others who go back generations in Dawlish who agree with what I have said. Are you suggesting that they should leave? Better surely to stay and try to make a nice place even nicer.
Oh for Gawd's sake - it IS a bit down at heel in places and it DOES need smartening up and all sorts of other things if it is to survive.
And I have moved here and I love it too. (though it could do with a bit of a wash and brush up in places)
If Dawlish is so 'bad' why have so many people moved here from other parts of the country? Go on, ask yourselves that.
I moved from a city in another part of the country. I moved here because I love it and because it offered a life style change.
Who's knocking Britain? Not me. And I think you mean non speaking English don't you and not non speaking Spanish. Oh and talking of non speaking Spanish I have heard tell that there are lots of expat Brits out on the Costas whose proud boast is that they don't speak a word of Spanish! Wot - move to another country and not learn the language? Us Brits? Never!
But I'm an immigrant (internal) as are others that I know of. We've taken up houses, school places, jobs, places at the doctors' surgeries, dental surgeries etc. etc. Are we 'internal' immigrants as of equal concern to you as those who do not originate from these shores?
I hear what you say about the difference between racism and having too many (for some) immigrants. Perhaps Olive could let us know if she was referring to 20 (which in a later posting then become 30)internal immigrant families or to 20/30 overseas immigrant families?
