I don't want a Tesco
Excellent! Delighted to hear your news - common sense prevailed!
So you want to clutter up Dawlish with two supermarkets both offering the same product ranges and prices? What's the point in that?
I've managed to do a full weekly shop in Dawlish town centre, (and we eat well, on good food) for the last 5 years. There must be many like me who either don't want to use their car for shopping or who don't have a car. We need our town centre food shops! The old and the young who don't have cars need to be able to shop on foot. ================================= http://www.dawlishblue.co.uk
Sorry to butt into your conversation, but what annoys me about being able to pay by text/credit card is the additional fee "for my convenience"! In other words, it costs us more to park but costs the council less as the money goes direct into their bank account. OK, so they pay bank charges, but not the cost of paying someone to physically collect the money. Doesn't seem right somehow! ...
"I still haven't heard of a sensible objection to Tesco's application." 1) it would kill off the town centre - all of us who walk to do our shopping, and there are many of us, would loose out if our butchers, bakers, greengrocers etc are killed off by out of town trade. And then we'd be left with empty shops. There are a limited number of customers in Dawlish, it's a small town, and our town ...
Here's a sensible reason why Tesco should be rejected - it would kill off the town centre! Exactly why does a town the size of Dawlish need TWO out of town stores? And Tesco sell a lot of goods that compete with non-food stores too. Anther sensible reason - the effect of refridgerated lorries and additional traffic on the people who live close to the proposed site And let's not knock the Co-op - ...
Seagull spikes ... http://birdspikesonline.co.uk/Bird-Spikes/photos.aspx http://www.birdspikesonline.co.uk/Bird-Spikes/Defender-Ridge-Spikes The council could help by co-ordinating purchases, to get bulk discount and reduced postal charges.
Seagull spikes are very cheap and easy to install. You buy them in strips and glue them on to roof ridges and other high places. However, it doesn't have to cost - we have neighbours who prevent seagulls nesting behind their chimney by blocking the space with wirenetting - it cost them nothing except the effort to put it there. I don't think this is an issue we should say "Councils and DEFRA" ...
Tax your car on line, it's quick and easy and you can do it at home - without queuing!
