Well its 'envy'. If anyone put the money up for a show on TV followed by a recording contract...number one at Christmas two years running 2006 and 2007, then arrange a UK tour fully booked .. people would 'despise' in 2008.. rather than say 'good on ya'. On a local level example .. if anyone does put something on you rarely hear good about it...all you hear is..'oh he is lining his pockets'. So ...

Nigel Kennedy's not just good, he is great! He was not not privileged but also 'in the street' as you put it. Many classical greats were little known in their lifetimes. The problem with TV shows is it's not really about high standards of musical ability. It's all about marketing mediocre product and spoon feeding it to a gullible public through huge campaigns to make as much money as possible. ...
Yes he is good but how can you compare Vivaldi with popular music? If it was not for TV shows like you mention, how do you get a chance to get on the music ladder? It is the person 'in the street' that gets on there. Why deny anyone the opportunity.
Saw this as well. It was breathtaking and awe inspiring. Elgar never sounded so good with Kennedy's possessed playing. Nigel Kennedy is one of the greatest musicians this country has ever produced. Absolutely agree with the sentiments about the awful X-Factor and Britain's Got Talent rubbish; definitely holiday camp tripe. Worlds apart from the majesty of Kennedy.
