General Discussion

TDC have recently (late last year) agreed an officer's report concerning the Regeneration of Dawlish (if I can find the link I'll post it). But for info see below text of e-mail I sent in support of the officer's recommendation. Also, just a few other things. I believe Dawlish gets £200,000 from Sainsbury to spend on the town. Is that correct? Also from some minutes I have read it seems that ...

New Convenience Store

Gerald's? Is that the convenience store at the Warren? If so, are they moving or expanding? I ask as they are bound to be terribly adversely affected at the Warren once Sainsbury's opens up at Shutterton Bridge.

Fronteraman - what you say sounds like a positive approach to the issue in question. Worthy of further discussion and investigation most certainly. I wonder if the new localism approach to planning will be of any benefit in all of this? I (and some others) also have ideas but they revolve around the cycle path to/from Exeter/Dawlish being completed. Re voting for you. 1. We need to know who ...

yes I know it was on here a while ago but from what I can gather Devon County Council subsequently denied that it was going to happen. Totally agree that fly-tipping will make a come back and I can think of a few places in and around Dawlish that will make ideal places for that to happen. Lovely! Just think how that will improve our environment and impress (not!) our holidaymakers. l

Just heard on Radio Devon about proposed Devon County Council cuts. One that is proposed is the closure of the recycling civic amenity site at Shutterton. Your thoughts?

Apologies if that heading isn't quite correct but it gives the general giste. For those interested in what this is about suggest you look towards the bottom of the Sainbury's thread to see discussion about new supermarket and how it will impact on the town centre. As fronteraman says - list your thoughts here on this thread. Sensible ones please. And yes, there is a dire lack of dosh about at ...

Sainsburys

I'll start new thread re ideas for town so that they won't get lost in this thread.

"I have to say every seaside I have visited in this countrty I have always gone round the shops.....I don't aim for a supermarket" Yes, I do that as well. As I am sure others do which is why having a supermarket on the outskirts of the town won't necessarily act as a draw for people to visit the town. People wil go to the supermarket as shoppers to do the bulk of their shopping and to the town, ...

Oh yes! the 186 - I had forgotten that. Got saved only recently didn't it via Devon County Council stepping in and throwing money at it. I'm pretty certain that part of the agreement for Sainsbury's to build at Shutterton Bridge is that it (Sainsbury's) would provide a bus service or money towards a service. Don't know the details off hand but deffo remember that was part of the agreement. And ...

I didn't say I was 100% certain there would be a free bus service but I think it highly likely if Sainsbury's think it would be of financial advantage to them. And whilst Dawlish does have quite a large 60+ population (with free bus passes) it also has others who are younger and who do not have cars. And don't forget that not all of Dawlish has access to a nearby bus service. Does Old Town? Does ...
