@Brazilnut what a daft statement, traffic will of course still be using the strand, even if it is just to drive out of dawlish to shop elsewhere

My understanding of it was that they built the two end bits, in the hopes that they could sort out the land ownership of the middle section by the time they had built the other bits (and no doubt hope to push the point with the landowner).  But it didn't happen so the paths don't meet in the middle section and so remains closed.  Good joined up thinking going on there then.

that was my understanding of it @Mcjrpc - that you cannot just park there to pop into a shop to buy something, or wait in the space while someone else pops to the shops, which is what happens a lot.  you can though collect goods that have already been purchased or park there to make deliveries/collections if you are a commercial vehicle as long as you only stay there a reasonable time for the ...

@michaelclayson can you clarify please your comment about loading bays being available for anyone to park in?  my understanding of them was that there are quite specific restrictions on who can and cannnot park in loading bays and as someone who does on occasion drive a commercial vehicle and needs to use loading bays there is nothing more annoying that finding all the loading bays full of ...

I have seen a Big Issue seller on The Strand, usually outside Boots for a good couple of years now.  Not every day but certainly fairly frequently, so it must be a reasonable pitch

I see people are now decorating it to make it look even more attractive - selection of drink cans and food wrappers were on it last night when I went past.

Because I know it annoys you because you can't bear that not everyone runs around in a panic all the time about things that might not even happen.  Cabinet Office confirmed in the article you linked to that it is NOT being discussed at the present time.  The only things you can't avoid in life are death and taxes - nothing new under the sun there.  Spend my life worrying about it?  No thanks, got ...

But this is pure newspaper speculation which is great for selling papers and little else. Worry about it IF or WHEN they start discussing it. To do so beforehand is a waste of energy because like so many of these things it probably won't come to anything and even if it does it won't be as described in the article because these things never seem to be.

So basically the Govt is expecting someone being paid jobseekers allowance to pay a small weekly proportion of it towards their weekly rent, which will cover the reduced amount the parents will be receiving directly from the Govt.  Don't see any problems with that myself. Once I left school and was out in the workplace I was always expected to make a contribution towards my upkeep at home and I ...

just a load more scaremongering on something that isn't actually planned to take place at the present time - better to spend less time worrying about things that might not even happen and more time enjoying the life you are living right now.  It doesn't have to all be doom and gloom unless you go looking for it all the time.
