Dawlish Street Market
13 Dec 2011

Interesting as this is exactly what has happened in Shropshire, new markets to reviatlise the towns http://www.shropshire.gov.uk/economicdevelopment.nsf/open/3A2E2D68D7D4DE898025778C0047172B

Many start up markets only last a short time because traders don't make enough money for it to be worthwhile. Less stalls means the public don't go so less traders turn up......................... Successful markets have strict rules including starting times, finishing times and restrictions on what each trader can sell, and these have to enforced. The recent Xmas market was obviously planned for ...

leatash!! Traffic Wardens, how dare you!! nothing so common. They are Enforcement Officers no less, actually based in Newton Abbot and travel around in a Van, there is one local 'warden' who works Dawlish as and when needed. That's unusual as Wardens usually don't operate in areas where they live, for obvious reasons!! Glad you confirm my point about free weekend parking, it is very bad for ...

I must admit I always try and find free parking, I even manage that in Newton Abbot even though it is only for an hour, so I don't object to short term free parking but street parking charges are good for local traders. Without them The Strand and Brunswick Place would be permanently full of residents cars, meaning a lot of visitors wouldn't stop here. I don't patronise traders in Towns when ...

Good point BobRees, but wherever I park, ie anywhere in the UK I simply read the parking restriction signs, simple really, when all else fails, read the instructions. BTW, Blue Badge holders can park 24/7 in the streets in Dawlish but have to pay if using the Car Parks if they don't have an extra permit from Teignbridge Council.

The Parking signs are very clear, street parking is marked as being 'payable' 7 days a week from 9am to 6pm, the car park machines clearly state that parking is free on Sundays till end March. Free parking on streets on Sundays is the worst thing that can happen for traders. Just check Brunswick Place on Sunday morning, full of residents cars, these get moved around 9am, if parking was free they ...

Ferret and Radiator, I am 99% certain it has been approved to be converted to Flats. A check on the Teignbridge website planning section should confirm that.

Petrol Prices
7 Dec 2011

Ah yes, the Supermarket fuel conspiracy again. It is very easy to do a 'google' about supermarket petrol and opinion is divided, loads of people say they notice no difference when using supermarket petrol and many others say their car definately doesn't 'go' as well with fuel from Tesco, Sainsburys etc.. But as with all these things no-one has actually done any proper tests, I must admit the only ...

Exactly, price depends on local competition, Sainsburys in Dawlish didn't need to keep low petrol prices after the initial opening discount as the only competiton is Marine Garage. As long as their prices are similar then they are not competing. Initially Marine dropped his price to compete with Sainsburys but as Sainsburys put their prices up the price now it is almost the same as it was when ...

The badge holder is often not the driver as may not be capable of driving but it is very annoying to see the abuse of these badges. I have seen many times people park cars in Dawlish, put the blue badge in the window, put on their rucksacks and go hiking for the day. The person who 'owns' the badge is supposed to be in the vehicle, when the badge is used, but this is often not the case. Although a ...
