Up road from me a house has started work on landscaping their back garden.
Loads of dust and noise all day and approx 40 tons of hardcore and about 40 railway sleepers.
I feel sorry from the people who have a house below them if this lot gives way this winter.
No planning permission on Teignbridge planning site for the work....which I would list as fairly major and with serious consequences if it goes tits up.
Near where I live I've seen garden trees cut down.
As we all know we live in a hilly part of the country. So we have lots of dwellings that are sited on hills. The removal of garden trees can thus lead to an invasion of privacy for those dwellings located further down the hill but especially for those whose back gardens abut those of their tree felling, higher sited, neighbours. Not only that, but because of permitted development rights (ie no planning consent needed) introduced in 2013(ish), those tree felling neighbours whose property is sited above yours could then go up into their roof and put in a dormer window. So privacy of lower sited gardens and properties get doubly whammied. No trees affording any degree of privacy plus a higher sited, protuding, window looking right into your back garden (and bedrooms?) to boot.
Government now introducing planning reforms part of which will increase permitted development rights.
These PDRs (permitted development rights) will include developers being able to build on brown field sites (ie sites that have already been built on sometime in the past/have empty/derelict buildings on them) without having to go through the planning application stages that they do at the moment.
As the implications of the planning reforms become clearer it will be easier to see how they could impact on Dawlish and surrounding area.
In the meantime I'll just leave you to ponder upon what I have just said about brown field sites and the fact that there is a planning application presently going through TDC's planning system concerning the redevelopment of the Lanherne site, Longlands.
And on this matter of planning reform I've just been looking at the minutes of DTC's planning committee meeting which was held on Thursday (30th) and saw this .

Resolved - that the clerk circulate the relevant link to all members to consider supporting on an individual basis.
Just remembered another brown field planning application presently going through the system - the development of the site of Shell Cove House into 6 dwellings and garages.
