keep the minute silence if you want to - don't keep it if you don't want to, no-one can make you do it either way, it is your own free and personal choice - end of story

I certainly won't be watching her funeral but only because I shall be at work all day earning a living to pay my bills and I've also done my best to avoid the news on the TV this last week too (actually I do that a lot of weeks and I've stopped buying anything other than a local paper because it is same old same old over and over again).  It is a shame that despite my hopes the first post in reply ...

BREAKING NEWS!!!!! Some people liked Margaret Thatcher Some people didn't Some people agreed with some or all of the things she did and said Some people disagreed with some or all of the things she did and said Those that liked her, won't change their opinions Those that didn't like her, won't change their opinions We all see this from our own ...

This thread was originally a posting by Brazilnut about a letter sent by someone in today's Govt to Glenda Jackson, it was not about Margaret Thatcher AT ALL.  So how come this has become yet another thread attacking someone who has just died?  Paul, did you actually bother to read the thread or did you just presume what it was about?

Poll Tax was not charged against the property, but against those aged 18 or over who lived in each household.  So the amount charged per person was the same no matter where you lived or how many lived in a house.  It was not a property charge divided by the numbers living there.

@goldenlad Have we really become a country where anyone who does well in this generation by working hard and creating wealth for themselves, may as well leave their children and future generations nothing at all because heaven help the future generations if they inherit any money.  And on that basis, presumably you will make sure you inherit not one penny from anyone, because that would mean you ...

@neilh Gorbachev was shown on TV on Monday night being interviewed some years ago about the ending of the Cold War.  He stated that without Mrs Thatcher bringing the USA and the USSR together at the negotiating table then it would not have happened.  So yes, it needed a USSR leader who was prepared to do a deal, and a USA leader also prepared to meet them half way, but the one who brought the ...
