I think DEEDOODLE has mixed up butchered with pollarding, the two are quite different.
@leatash - i beg to differ, the weight in the tree is in the trunk not in the small branches that have slowly grown back after many years since it was last butchered. In 18 months you will have a tuft of branches sticking out of the trunk. The only reason it is butchered in this way is because it is cheaper to do so, not for any other reason, in my opinion.
It will be back to normal in 18 months and it's been saved from falling into the brook.
Walking along The Brook yesterday evening, by the old monkey house, I saw that one of the lovely willows that had been butchered many years ago has now been revisited by talented tree surgeons! Poor quality pic from my phone, still shows the pruning extent.
Thanks @Calamari . The server it was on was getting old and is being retired in January, and quite a lot of things were broke on the site like youtube videos and capital letters! These are now fixed. Also it works a bit better on mobile and smaller devices. I didn't want to change it too much in one go though.
Why the heck don't they just give up on the line by the sea! ...get building Dawlish Parkway other side of town...or build a tunnell between the town and sea.. do you want a blocked view of sea and get town protected?.. I don;t think the town is that bothered on a rail service really..
The trainline at Dawlish has been closed to services being run by Crosscountry because of the weather.
