Makes absolute sense to me that this town and each town/city (thus the whole country) becomes as energy independent and food producing independent as they possibly can. I was born after World War II (but born, just, when rationing was still on) so only know of, rather than experienced, food rationing. But as I recall didn't the Germans blockade the Atlantic and things like that so that supplies ...
Just to point out that the Portas bid couldn't have been in place 12 months ago as the Portas scheme didn't exist then. It is a new idea.
You may remember that we had a discussion about Dawlish putting in a bid as a Portas Pilot town (see http://www.dawlish.com/forum/item.aspx?id=20678 ).). Well, as part of the bid, a video has to be made explaining why Dawlish should be selected. This video is due to be made tomorrow, that's Friday 16th March. Meet 11.30am at The Lawn. Lots of people needed. (Hope the weather isn't like it is ...
BBC local tv news programme "Spotlight" has a feature today concerning the prospect of a drought in the south west and the consequence increase in food prices (including basics like potatoes) should we continue with this lack of rainfall. (and I appreciate the irony of this topic given the horrible misty weather that we've got today and that we have also had for the past few days).
Seems you can't believe everything you read in the papers either (see bottom of Mamhead thread for reference to the veracity or otherwise of things that get posted on this website.) According to this week's Gazette, CAB are available in Dawlish on Wednesday mornings. That is incorrect. I have just checked with someone I know who is a CAB volunteer. Here are the opening times for the Newton Abbot, ...
Is this what you apparently had in mind Cass? http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2012/mar/14/goldman-sachs-director-quits-morally-bankrupt
No idea. Suggest you ask Dawlish Town Council.
Hosepipe ban. From my recollection of the article about this on yesterday's news this part of the country is not in line for hosepipe bans. That said, and yes I do know it rains in the west more than in the east of this country and I do recognise that we have had some very, very wet summers over the recent 3 or 4 years, we might have hospipe bans yet as I'm pretty certain that even in this part ...
As a lot of our Dawlish teenagers continue their education at Exeter College I thought it appropriate to post this on here. Well done to all concerned. (My daughter is very proud to be a student with you). http://www.exe-coll.ac.uk/News/Article.aspx?id=298
Nice site and location for a country house hotel?
